  1. How many catchers?

The Twins signed Kurt Suzuki to a one year deal, pending a physical. They have three other catchers on their roster: Josmil Pinto, Chris Herrmann and Eric Fryer.

    My question is, how many catchers will the team want to take north? Barring injuries, Pinto and Suzuki are the two top favorites to make the team. But will the Twins carry a third catcher? Reading other posts on this site, many seem to think Herrmann is the third catcher;

I'm not so sure. I think Fryer would ...

There’s a lot of chatter on this here interweb thingy lately concerning what Twins General Manager Terry Ryan’s next moves will be and should be. But there’s still more than a little doubt as to whether this is truly a new Terry Ryan, willing to spend Pohlad money ...

ID:	6200Last offseason, the Twins faced a decision with a player who had been part of their organization for nearly a decade. Scott Baker, coming off Tommy John surgery, was a free agent, and the Twins, direly in need of pitching help, were among the teams discussing a contract with him.

Ultimately, they backed off and let him sign with the Cubs. According to reports, the biggest stumbling block was Baker's unwillingness to include an option for a second year. ...

  7. Moves to Come?

As everyone who stays caught up on Twins news knows by now, Ryan Doumit was traded to the Braves yesterday for Sean Gilmartin. When I heard about this news, it got me thinking. At the moment, the Twins have a high number pitchers on their 40-man roster. After they added Gilmartin, their 2013 AAA pitching group got even more crowded, and I have a feeling that more moves might be coming to fix that.

The Twins' pitching rotation at the Major League level currently includes Phil Hughes, ...

  9. Diversity in the Minor Leagues

There are roughly 145 minor league players in the Twins organization. As I look at the Twins current players - I found these approximate numbers:

    Players - Hispanic / Latino 28%
    06 Players - African American 4%
    03 Players - Asian 2%

Does anyone know how these numbers correlate with the rest of the (MLB) league? This has the Twins with at least 34% of their MiLB players being minorities. What happened to all the African American ...

  11. Handbook Preview: Scout Interview

One of my favorite things to do in regards to this website - whether in conjunction with the Prospect Handbook or not - is have an ongoing dialogue with scouts in the organization. My favorite article I've ever posted still remains the interview I did with West Coast Scouting Supervisor Sean Johnson.

In the 2013 edition of the handbook, I had an interview with Jack Powell, who is the scout responsible for signing Byron Buxton. The full interview was available in the book, with a brief

  14. Winter Meetings and Expectations

I typically take a little business trip to the Tampa/St. Petersburg FL area in December and did so last week.

After years of hearing about how interesting baseball’s Winter Meetings are, this year I found myself within reasonable driving distance of those Meetings when they officially opened up. That being the case, I decided I would check the situation out for myself.
