  1. 20 Twins Trades: Viola for the broken heart of a seven-year-old

I also recapped the Tom Brunansky for Tom Herr trade on Thursday. If you want to, you can read it here.

Outfielder Don Edward Baylor played in twenty games for the Twins in 1987 and also played in seven post-season games. Born and raised in Austin, Texas, he was drafted in the second round by Baltimore in 1967. He had a tremendous minor league record, hitting .310 or more every season and hitting 20 or more home runs in his ...
  3. Weekly Links-N-Thinks

Another week of baseball's regular season has come and gone.

For the Twins there was plenty of news this week. The Marlins turned out to be pesky but they have been surprising more than one team in the National League so far this season. Kyle Gibson will be making his big league debut on Saturday and this is a moment to get a little bit excited about. Twins fans have heard his name for multiple seasons.

Ryan Doumit had a cool slide, Byron Buxton is good at baseball, and ...
  4. Twins Minor League Report (6/27): Stuart Turner wins Johnny Bench Award

It was a big day for Minnesota Twins’ second-round draft pick Ryan Eades. He agreed to terms with the Twins and will report to Elizabethton. The E-Twins have played the past two days without two of their catchers. Third-round pick Stuart Turner and ninth-round pick Mitch Garver flew to Wichita because they were two of the three finalists for the Johnny Bench Award for the nation’s top collegiate catcher. In a ceremony on Thursday night, Turner was named the winner of the award.

  5. The Yanks Are Coming

I became a Yankees fan in 1962, near the end of a long period when it was fashionable to hate the Yankees. I went the opposite direction, partly because of my contrary nature and also to annoy my dad. I didn’t realize the dynasty I glommed onto would end so soon.

I was at the 1965 Opener at Met Stadium between the Yankees and Twins. Mickey Mantle started a ninth-inning rally that allowed the Yankees to tie the game when Cesar Tovar later dropped a two-out pop up. However, Tovar ...
  6. A Checklist for Kyle Gibson

The 2009 MLB Draft has to feel like eons ago to Mr. Kyle Gibson. He was supposed to be a high first round pick but some injury concerns caused him to drop to the Twins with the 22nd pick. In 2010, he went on a tear through the Twins farm system as he started in High-A and finished the year at Triple-A. The club named him the minor league pitcher of the year and he looked to be one step away from the big leagues.

Tommy John surgery would halt his progress in 2011 and he has been slowly ...
  7. Those Damn Yankees: A Minnesota Twinkie in King Rivera's Court

I used to be the worst kind of person in the world. A Yankees fan that didn't live in New York. As lewd and annoying as they might be, you can't blame a New Yorker for being a Yankees fan -- let's face it, their other option is the Mets. But if you don't live in New York, and your family isn't from there, it's simple douchebaggery that makes a person cheer for that team. But I did.

It all started because the Twins broke my heart by trading Rick Aguilera -- twice -- and fell into ...

The real question is the cause of Diamond’s struggles this season: if he has truly taken a step back, expect his struggles to continue, and he may lose his spot in the rotation. However, if Diamond’s poor performance has been more a result of bad luck, there is a good

The Twins drafted me in the first round (third overall) out of St. Anthony's High School in 1987. I made my major league debut with the Twins on July 31, 1991 at Yankee Stadium in relief and pitched 2 innings. I pitched for the Twins from 1991-1993 before being traded to the Chicago Cubs.
    During my time in Minnesota I had a 16-17 record with a 4.61 ERA and a 1.60 WHIP. In 259.2 innings ...

Willard Wayne Terwilliger, known as “Twig”, did not play for the Twins, but was part of their organization for several years. Unrelated to Dick Terwilliger, who was also born on June 27, they are the only two people with the last name “Terwilliger” to have played in the major leagues. He was born in Clair, Michigan, attended Western Michigan University, and was signed ...

  12. Nate Wolters: NBA Draft Prospect and HUGE Twins Fan

Tonight in New York, the NBA will hold its annual player draft. In Minnesota, the talk is of Flip Saunders and which direction he will choose to lead the Wolves in his first draft. For St. Cloud native Nate Wolters, it will be one of the most important nights of his life. The 6-5 point guard, who played his prep hoops at St. Cloud Tech and college ball for the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State, is expected to be drafted sometime between the late first round and the middle of the second round. ...
  13. Twins Minor League Report (6/26): Sano's Big Day

MLB made it official on Wednesday afternoon.

Miguel Sano and Byron Buxton are the "future" and they will both be participants in this year's MLB Futures Game. This game features some of the best talent in the minor leagues from each organization. The teams are broken up into a World Team and a US Team so Sano and Buxton will be on opposite squads.

Because of some rainouts on Tuesday, there were a ton of games in the Twins system on Wednesday. Let's see who else is part ...
  14. Don't Blame "Those Damn Yankees"

The Twins, according to legend, are afraid of the Yankees. And you know what, after some quick post-season exits at the hands of the Yankees, that is a pretty easy narrative to build. Add in the fact that the Twins have struggled to beat the Yankees in the regular season, despite the Twins having fairly successful regular season teams for most of the 2000’s, and you begin to see how that narrative continues to grow.
