The last time the All-Star game to be held in Minnesota was in 1985. The night of the game, just prior to the national broadcast, Channel 11 (when they were WUSA, not KARE) had a half hour special covering it.

It's a half-hour long, so make yourself comfortable if you want to watch it. You won't regret it. Among other gems, it includes....

  2. Twin of the Future? - Niko Goodrum

Niko Goodrum is far from an elite prospect. He was a 2nd round pick in 2010 out of a high school in Georgia. Baseball America and Kevin Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus both listed Goodrum as the 19th best prospect in what is generally considered a weak Twins farm system. Aaron Gleeman listed him 16th and Seth Stohs listed him 19th. Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com did not have him in his top 20 and Keith Law did not have him in his top 10 (which really should not surprise you if you read the previous ...

  5. Look for Plouffe to rebound

ID:	2182It was not more than a month or so ago that third baseman Trevor Plouffe was the hottest thing in the Twin Cities. Essentially, he was “Call Me Maybe” personified.

Prior to taking a Luke Hochaver offering on the right thumb back on July 20, Plouffe was compiling decent number – including otherworldly stats in the power department such as 11 home runs in 26 games. However, since his return on August 20 he is now just 8-for-56 (.142) and has yet to hit for ...

  6. Why I love baseball (more than the other sports)

As I watched the game on TV last night (trying to put comparative images of The Towering Inferno out of my mind) I found myself wondering why I even loved this game so much. I even tried watching some basketball instead, but inevitably my finger kept moving toward the “last” button on the remote to check back on the game. Why? What is it about baseball that has me so ensnared, even when my home team is the Minnesota Twins? After reflection, here are five reasons I still love the game – even this ...

  7. Deduno Gardenhized?

I was afraid Gardenhire and Anderson would fool with Deduno, and it looks like it happened. Deduno looked nothing like his former self in his previous start. Why?

My bet is, that Gardy and Andy just could not stand a guy they see as so atypical,

"you can't walk that many batters and be successful, Andy...." Hey guys, look a guy you passed on might be the Cy Young in the NL...same reason..

You have to allow Deduno to be what he is....a pitcher ...

For fans of the minor leagues, this time of year is pretty fun. The Elizabethton Twins will be starting their playoff run tonight. September call-ups can start happening on Friday. The minor league regular seasons come to an end on Labor Day and then more players get called up while those playoff runs start. As you know, Beloit will be in the Midwest League playoffs, and most likely, they will be the lone Twins full-season playoff team. Today, it is expected that ...
  9. Tuesday's Trip through the Minors

Even though they are a last place team like the Twins, the pesky Seattle Mariners have seemed to have the Twins number in 2012. For the second night in a row, the Twins couldn't get much offense going and it's tough to win games without scoring runs. The good news is that the Twins are getting closer to getting the second pick in next year's draft. Only the Cubs and the Astros have a worse record than the Twins so this recent stretch of poor play has pushed Minnesota ahead of Colorado.

ID:	2170On the surface, this 2012 Twins campaign seems painfully similar to last season's train wreck. On this date a year ago, the Twins sat with a 56-77 record, which sadly compares favorably to their current 52-77 mark. Both seasons were marked by abysmal starts, midsummer rebounds and late implosions (at least the current squad is headed that way, with an 8-17 record since the start of August).

Yet, looking beyond the similarly horrible results, this season has ...

  13. Reflections on fan-dom

So what kind of fan am I? When I was in Fort Myers that was one of the season-long advertising gimmicks they were touting – the varied nature of those who attend ballgames. Yesterday, attending my first Twins game since my minor league trip (I love watching a pitching duel!), I found myself thinking back to the various minor league parks I was at and comparing them to the relative cathedral that is Target Field. I also found myself thinking about who had attended those games, and who I saw around ...

  14. Twins 2013 Class A Affiliation Gets Muddied

When I’m not answering that question, I’m the one asking it of pretty much anyone I can think of who might have some insight.
