ID:	6472The 2013 Draft is going to be judged almost completely on the ascension of pitcher Kohl Stewart. That’s as intriguing as a $4.5 million bet on a roulette ball, hopping red to black. So much reward. So much risk. So little control.

    The 100 Word Primer
Stewart was last year’s first round draft choice, fourth overall. After signing with the Twins, his first couple of months as a professional did not disappoint. He had the mid-90s fastball. He struck ...

  3. Joe Mauer and Increasing Strikeouts

Members of the Minnesota Twins struck out 1,430 times last season. In the history of the Twins organization, no team had struck out more than 1,121 times (1997 team). That was the only year since the team moved to Minnesota that the club recorded more than 1,100 times.

Over the last three seasons, Minnesota strikeout totals have increased every year. It has been a rough couple of seasons and there have been some inexperienced players trying to make their mark at the big league level. ...
  4. Did Terry Ryan Act Too Aggressively in Free Agency?

ID:	6467Now there's a funny question to ask.

Terry Ryan, who has long been billed by his detractors as stingy and overly conservative when it comes to free agency, drawing criticism for exhibiting too much aggression in his approach to the open market? Not long ago, such a notion would have been difficult to comprehend.

Yet, it is fair to wonder if the Twins made the correct choices now that we've seen Matt Garza sign with the Brewers for far ...

  6. TD Top Prospects: #6 Jose Berrios

We were introduced to Jose Berrios in a video of him celebrating with his friends and family after receiving the exquisite news that he was drafted by a professional baseball team. Arms in a “V”, high-fives, hugs and tears.

For Minnesota Twins fans, the sequel is of him doing the same thing on the field following the last out of a World Series victory. That’s the dream anyway. There remains, of course, a long road from here to there.

Still, Berrios has done much in his ...

  8. TD Top Prospects: #7 Josmil Pinto

A year ago Josmil Pinto wasn’t on anyone’s prospect list.

Baseball America. Baseball Prospectus. Seth Stohs. None of these minor league mavens saw Pinto coming in 2013. The kid was so far off the radar you’d figure he had drown in tobacco juice somewhere in Beloit (which has been known to happen in Wisconsin). And yet, one year later, here he is, number seven with a bullet on our prospect list. What happened? How did everyone miss so badly?

  9. VOTE: Most Iconic Twins Moment

Earlier this week, the Sporting News released their list of the most iconic moment for each MLB team. Some teams are tied to some of the best moments in the history of the sport while other teams top moments aren't too memorable outside of their home market. That's the nature of these kinds of lists.

For Twins fans, it is pretty easy to put Kirby Puckett's walk-off home run in Game 6 of the 1991 World Series at the top of the list. The '91 World Series might be the best Fall Classic ...
  10. TD Top Prospects: #8 Jorge Polanco

Signed in the same year and from the same Dominican academy as Miguel Sano, Jorge Polanco has largely been overshadowed ever since starting his pro career.

Sano received a franchise-record $3.5 million signing bonus and has had a documentary crew exhaustively following his rise to the majors. Polanco signed for "only" $750,000 and didn't experience the type of immediate success that his uber-talented fellow countryman did.

    But, with back-to-back stand-out seasons under ...

ID:	6444A surprise top-notch Twins starting pitching prospect? Yes, please. Let's play five questions:

    Who?
That’s exactly what I said when Lewis Thorpe’s name started popping up on national prospect lists this offseason. Shame on me - we’ve been tracking him here for months.

But the rest of you are forgiven. Thorpe has only been with the Twins since the middle of last year and was signed as a 16-year-old from Melbourne, Australia. He's only ...

We've been asked by those in the Twitterverse to discuss the 25-man possibilities as well as the options that the Twins have with their open 40-man roster spot.

Of course, it's also the middle of the season where all publications are dropping their Top Prospects Lists, so we'll discuss that too.

  14. Recap: In St. Paul Saints’ Summer Shandy Snowball Classic, Blue triumphs over Yellow

The Minnesota Twins spent January 24-26 celebrating TwinsFest, reminding baseball fans of what they had to look forward to come Opening Day. A week later and across the river, St. Paul cut to the chase and decided rather than whet fans’ appetites, they’d serve up the main course.

Or at least a junk food version of it. In the only state that would think it a good idea to play Winter Ball anywhere north of the Rio Grande, an alliance of the St. Paul Saints, Leinenkugel’s, and the St. ...
