  1. Guest Column: Why kids should collect cards

My 12-year old cousin recently had the idea to write an article to one of his favorite magazines, Beckett Trading Card Monthly. He and I have spent a lot of time in recent years collecting baseball trading cards and it has become a fun hobby for both of us. The editor liked his article so much that he put it on the front page of Beckett.com over the last couple of days.

Here is link to the article as it was posted on Beckett.com but below you will find the article in its entirety. ...
  2. Viking's success makes the Twins' life harder

The Twins and Vikings. Both considered down and out for the considerable future after a 3-13 2011/2012 and a 99-loss season in 2011. Unfortunately for the Twins, the Vikings have come storming back after last season and now sit one win away from joining the playoffs. The Twins, on the other hand, again just avoided a 100-loss season. In several ways, this makes the Twins' life much more difficult in several ways.

    1. Success of rookies and vets together. Something that the Vikings have ...

  3. Who will be the one who will push Plouffe at third base for the Twins?

The Twins' General Manager has been on the record many times this offseason indicating that he would like to get someone who will "push" Trevor Plouffe at third base. The Twins' field and front office staff are unhappy with Plouffe's defense in the hot corner. Plouffe has had his moments there, but he is still learning the position. Let us not forget that the powers of being who feel that Plouffe is inadequate ...

  4. Twins Christmas Greatest Hits

This will mark the third Christmas since NoDak Twins Fan was started back in 2010. Every year I have put together a post that related a famous Christmas story or tale to the Twins. This year was a little different as I took the famous song "The Twelve Days of Christmas" and gave it a very Minnesota Twins feel.

It has been fun to put these posts together over the last couple of years so I thought it would be great to do a "Greatest Hits" post. This is in case you have only recently ...
  5. Spending the Twins' Money... or Not

Terry Ryan has been a busy boy. We may or may not be impressed by what he's been doing, but nobody can say he took an early holiday break from the office.

(This article was originally posted at Knuckleballsblog.com)

The Twins went in to the offseason needing starting pitching. Ryan told anyone who asked that he understood it was his job to improve the rotation. He also has, at various times, mentioned also wanting to add some bullpen pieces and someone to push Trevor Plouffe ...

  6. Scrooged!!

It's Christmas time in Twins Territory and what does GM Terry Ryan have to show for it after another 95 loss season in 2012. He made two good trades bringing in power arms Alex Meyer and Trevor May to a depleted farm system. He added a solid middle of the rotation starter in Vance Worley. However, he then disappointed everybody by signing free agent pitcher Kevin Correia to a terrible 2-year, $10 million deal. He signed pitcher Mike Pelfrey to a 1-year, $4 million deal with incentives. Pelfrey ...

The Twins Daily personnel want to extend our best wishes for a very Happy holiday season to all of our readers. As I mentioned last week, the holidays start to signal that baseball season is approaching. The Minnesota Twins Winter Caravan will begin in the middle of January. That leads up to Twins Fest the final weekend of the month, and just over two weeks later, the Twins will begin their spring training in Ft. Myers.

Generally speaking, very little happens between Christmas and ...

  8. Spring Training Roster, other tidbits.

Though there may be moves yet to happen, you can view the updated Spring Training Roster here.

Some comparisons between last year's spring training roster and this year's:

Pitchers - Last year the Twins brought in 33 pitchers, this year the number is currently at 34.

Catchers - A year ago there were eight catchers officially invited and one added in the weeks leading up to spring training. This year the Twins have five on their 40-man and have invited four ...

  9. A Tale of Three Cities

It will be interesting to watch three teams as they try to pull themselves out of the basement. The Twins, Cubs and and Astros all have set out different path towards success. They also represent the three very different markets and revenue streams.

The Cubs have purged salaries in trades and then are putting money back in for next year. They will probably not match last year's payroll, but they will spend the most of the three. They also have the most revenue. Will the additions ...

  10. Roster Options for 2013

There is strangely now much more uncertainty about the 2013 roster than there was for 2012. A little over a month ago it seemed like things were clear-cut. There was a 50/50 chance that Span would be traded, but otherwise it looked like much of the 25-man roster was pretty clear.

In the past few weeks, the Twins have traded Span (for prospect Alex Meyer), traded Ben Revere for Vance Worley (and prospect Trevor May), signed Kevin Correia, Mike Pelfrey and Rich Harden, and selected Ryan ...

ID:	2938The Minnesota Twins continue to stockpile arms for what could be an interesting competition for a rotation spot this spring.

First reported by the Star Tribune’s LeVelle Neal yesterday, the Twins moved quickly and signed right-handed starter Rich Harden to a minor league deal to include a spring training invite.

Harden, 31, missed all of 2012 after a shoulder strain necessitated rotator cuff surgery.

    Interestingly enough, the injury’s ...
  13. The Twins Twelve Days of Christmas

As they say, "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year." Christmas comes at the beginning of next week and there are always things to be thankful for even if your favorite team has been terrible for a couple of seasons. It might be tough to see the light at the end of the tunnel but it's still not the time of year to be grouchy.

So here's a new version of an old Christmas favorite. The tune is to "The Twelve Days of Christmas." To get the full impact of the song, it should be sung ...
