  1. JC's Top 15 Twins Prospects

Over the past couple of months, a number of smart, informed people who spend a lot of time analyzing young baseball players have been publishing their lists of top Twins prospects. Since Iím not nearly as smart or informed about these players as others are, Iíve held off on publishing my own rankings.

(This article was originally posted at Knuckleballsblog.com.)

But Iím going to put my rankings out there today, for two reasons. First, Iíve now had time to read and ...

  2. 2013 Roster & Payroll Page

As we turn the calendar page from 2012 to 2013, itís also time to turn the page and look forward to the 2013 season.

The Roster & Payroll page has become a pretty popular destination for TwinsDaily.com visitors, so Iíve decided to make some changes to make it MORE informational (can you believe it?) but also more reader-friendly.

The 2012 page has been skinned down to the big-league payroll and is still viewable here (link not available yet...).

    The meat and ...
  3. Prospect list in depth, Part Two: 41-50

Here is part two of my detailed prospect list. This is where it tends to get pretty cloudy with a lot of reliever types, but these names either were or would have been in the 25-35ish range in the Twins system 2-3 years ago. That is a good sign.

    50. Dakota Watts (DOB: 11-16-87), RH reliever: Watts bounced back from a rough 2011 to have a substantially better 2012 and remain on this list. He still walks to many batters and that is going to be the main issue going forward. His AA performance ...

2012 has come and gone and there were plenty of story lines that comprised the year that was for the Minnesota Twins. After a decade of winning baseball, the Twins have suffered through back-to-back losing seasons for the first time since 2000. Minnesota has been the worst team in the American League for two seasons but there were still some signs of life from the hometown nine.

Willingham's monster year: Last offseason the Twins had a choice to make ...

Size: 4.4 KBWith Mr. Bonnes still out of town, I stood in as the geek of the week with Aaron Gleeman for the latest GATG podcast. We spent about 100 minutes babbling about baseball and the Twins, discussing our favorite free agent pitching deals thus far and talking big picture for the local nine. Check out the latest episode via any of these channels:

  8. Prospect list in depth, Part One: HMs and 51-60

This is the first in a series of blog posts breaking down my top 60 Twins prospects. I realized that I had omitted Ryan Pressly and Zach Jones from my initial list, so they will make it into the series now. Overall the system has improved dramatically in the past two years, both at the top and with respect to depth.

Honorable Mention: Matthew Koch, Bobby Lanigan, Tyler Grimes

HM: Matthew Koch: After an inconsequential 2011, Koch started out of the gates hot in the first ...

  9. An Attempt towards an Objective 2013 Hall of Fame Ballot

'Tis the time of the year when BBWAA writers who have ballots for the Hall of Fame voting, as well as everyone else, indicate who they want to be in the Hall of Fame. There are a lot of those lists and most of them come without much explanation and most of the picks are somewhat subjective (of the type: "Jack Morris should be in because he was the best post-season pitcher like ever"). Also, you

  10. Reflecting on 2012, Looking forward to 2013

by , 12-28-2012 at 07:57 PM ("And we'll see ya' ... tomorrow night.")
The year has come and gone, and like every year it went by very fast. For me anyway it went by really fast because I got to bring in a new person to the world. I wanted to share the best and the worst of the year mostly in a sports perspective.

I just got SI the magazine today in the mail and they had the moments of the year in sports. A lot of the year in sports had something to do with the Olympics. I don't understand why I have never really gotten into the Olympics, but I ...

  11. Who (If Anyone) Is Cooperstown Bound in 2013?

It took me longer than usual to really study the BBWAA Baseball Hall of Fame ballot this year. I donít know why. However, there remains a pretty interesting storyline this year with so many of the most high-profile steroid era superstars in their first year on the ballot.

Itís not like weíve had no discussion of the HoF at all though, as the Pleiss boys covered the topic in one of their ďTalk to ContactĒ podcasts earlier this month.

Jayson Stark of ESPN likes to try and find some strange but true things that happened in the baseball season. He picks out his strange but true player of the year, game of the year, injury of the year, etc. There are some entertaining items included in his list and I encourage you to check out his entire post over at the four-letter network's site.

One of his strange but true tidbits from this season revolves around Ryan Doumit and a strange feat ...
  13. Why Do We Care About the Twins?

Iíve been pretty critical of the Twins front office lately. Iím not alone in that, of course. Quite a number of fans, including many who are far more informed and better able to communicate than I, feel that the Twins have simply not done enough to improve the team this offseason.

Over this Christmas holiday week, I couldnít help but reflect on matters so much more important than baseball. Will the ideologues ...

  14. Infielders Ė Headed for Obsolescence?

Originally, I was curious to see how the number of defensive chances handled by outfielders have changed over the years. Using the Lahman database, I summed all putouts, errors, and assists credited among the three outfield positions each season and divided by their sum of innings-played-outs times 27 outs times the 3 positions. This gave me the following trend since 1954 when the data started being available in the Lahman database:
