I had a Thanksgiving Baby, Lucille Wynn Irwin!! I am a super excited father right now, just went back to my first day of work, and finally the Minnesota Twins make a move. We have all seen that after Upton signed with the Braves the Twins had to find a way to trade Span for option 2. We all know now that Span was definitely gone this year, I am glad we were able to get a lot of upside in a deal for Span. My biggest issue with this was that we are ...

ID:	2774Last weekend, I traveled down to Nashville to see one of my best friends get married. The fantastic event took place at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center, which coincidentally is where general managers and other key executives from around baseball will congregate next week for the annual Winter Meetings.

Rather than flying, we elected to drive down to Tennessee for the wedding. It was a slow, dull, 14-hour road trip that involved ...
  3. Adieu Denard

Being a fan of a sports team has its downfalls. I wouldn't have much fun being a fan if I didn't get a little emotionally attached to some of the guys. The risk of that, of course, is that it's a bummer when they go away. I will certainly miss Denard.

  4. Are We Seeing Bizarro Terry Ryan?

This article was originally posted at

It’s been difficult for me this offseason to, on the one hand, listen to and read Terry Ryan’s comments about what his plans are for addressing the Twins’ obvious needs, while bearing in mind the Twins’ historical approach to offseason roster building. In fact, it brings to mind the “Bizarro World” introduced by DC Comics back in my younger (much younger) days.

Here are a few of the offseason stories swirling as the Winter Meetings approach. Get yourself caught up on all the happenings from the rumor mill. Step up to the table because there are plenty of Twins tidbits to go around. Starting the countdown at number 8:

    8. Pat Neshek avoids arbitration with Oakland, signs a one-year deal
Neshek has always been a fan favorite in Minnesota and he had a rebirth with the resurgent A's in 2012. He had plenty ...
  6. What's Next? (Part 3 - "I think..." Edition)

These aren't necessarily moves that I'd make over the course of the next few weeks, but these are the moves I think we'll see.

I think the Friday non-tender deadline will roll around and the news we've all been waiting to hear "The Twins will non-tender Drew Butera" won't come.

I don't think it will be because Butera adds a lot of value, per se, to this team, but I do believe it allows the Twins to keep Mauer and Doumit in the lineup every day and it allows Chris Herrmann ...

  7. Braves Signing Upton Hurts Twins' Trade Options

Size: 16.8 KBMinnesota Twins fans finally have a mildly good reason to push the panic button.

It wasn’t that Scott Baker was leaving the team – without an option year, his value the year after Tommy John isn’t particularly meaningful. It certainly isn’t that (gasp) other free agents starting pitchers are signing elsewhere – especially when only a handful have changed teams and there are an inordinate number of good starting pitchers on the market. And MOST OF ALL it ...
  8. Mauer Trade:

Trade Mauer to the Red Sox along with Plouffe and Escobar or Florimon for

    1: Middlebrooks 3B
    2: Swihart SH C
    3: Barnes SP
    4: Buchholz SP
    5: Bogaerts SS
    6: Saltalamachia C

All of these players would fill some need and the only players on their active roster are Buchholz, Middlebrooks, and Salty. If you could get this "hall", I think you would have to consider it.
  9. Turn to the NBA

Pop quiz! What do you do when you've run out of fuel, in a tour-bus, in rural Siberia, with your in-laws?? This is the metaphor for how I see the current situation with the Twins starting pitching rotation. Our characters are all familiar: the fuel = Pohlads' payroll; the bus = shiny new Target Field; Siberia = Minnesota; the in-laws = our gallery of failed starting pitchers. So...what DO you do?

  10. Rule 5 Draft Preview: Diamond Hunting

Scott Diamond shows how the Rule 5 draft can benefit a team.
The Rule 5 Draft can be an interesting test of an organization because of all of the rules and regulations involved in selecting a player. To understand the Twins mindset for the draft, it is important to know the rules involved in selecting a player and the purpose of the Rule 5 Draft. All of these things can go a long way into a team's decision to pick a player or to let their pick go to the wayside.

When MLB instituted the Rule 5 Draft, ...

If Spring Training started tomorrow, here are the 40 players that would be competing for a coveted 25-man roster spot and a place on the 2013 Opening Day roster. We'll start with the

  12. Twins interested in a Francisco Liriano reunion

ID:	2750The Star Tribune’s LaVelle Neal reported yesterday that the Twins officials have been in contact with Francisco Liriano’s representatives and will meet next week in Nashville during the winter meetings.

To many Twins fans, the news probably inspired a palm to the face followed by a head to the desk. After all, Liriano has been as bad of a starter in the past two seasons not named Nick Blackburn -- another reason to repeat the face-palm and head-desk combination. ...

ID:	2746With as many as four spots needing to be filled in the rotation, it figured that Terry Ryan – with his traditionally risk-averse nature in free agency – would target low-cost pitchers with upside who could be acquired on one-year deals. This strategy makes sense for a couple reasons: it adds multiple options to the starting pitching mix without requiring huge commitments, and hurlers looking for the one-year make-good deal ought be more apt to sign with a club that ...

Last time, I totally forgot to mention that Alexi Casilla was claimed off waivers by the Orioles. I not only forgot this event happened, but I also forgot Alexi Casilla existed.
