  1. Forgotten Twin? Bernardo Brito

The entire first paragraph will come from my own memory though. No guarantees for accuracy ...

  2. Twins Minor League Report (6/25): A Night of Debuts

It was a night of debuts in the Twins system on Tuesday. Aaron Hicks finally made his first appearance in a AAA game as he started rehab from his hamstring injury. Logan Darnell also made his AAA debut. Matt Summers replaced Darnell in the Rock Cats rotation and stared for the team on Tuesday. And likely, the debut you were looking most forward to came in Palm Beach as Byron Buxton played in his first game for the Miracle. How did their debuts go, and how was 2013 draft pick Tanner Mendonca in his ...

  3. Which Pitcher Will Lose His Job Due to Kyle Gibson’s Promotion?

With all of the hype and excitement surrounding the Kyle Gibson promotion to the majors, the Minnesota Twins behind closed doors are likely pondering a much more complicated question: who is going to get the axe to make room for Gibson long-term? Twins’ General Manager Terry Ryan stated that once he called up Gibson—baring some historically awful performances—it would likely be for good, which means that someone is going to have to be removed from the rotation unless the team opts to go to a six-man ...
  4. Monsters and Yankees

The first thing you need to understand is the New York Yankees breed monsters.

Monstrous Yankees seem to be human, but they grow to be so much more than that. They become legends, with their memory preserved in Monument Park throughout the ages.

This is not necessarily an insult: monsters can be heroes, too. Take Babe Ruth. He began as a boy at an orphanage and grew into a walking appetite. His home runs shot further and further away from the batter’s box until thinking ...

  5. Is There A Market For Morneau?

ID:	4550The Twins needed a big year from Justin Morneau. Not because it was going to help push them over the top, but because a productive Morneau may have yielded a prospect or two at the trade deadline that would have proven helpful toward the rebuilding effort.

Unfortunately, Morneau has done very little this year to make himself an appealing trade chip. While many (including myself) were expecting a return to form of sorts now that the former MVP had seemingly ...

  6. Wha' Happened #9 (GAME OF THE WEEK)

Rather than continually reposting the same stuff here as on my other website--and since these recaps are often (week[s]) late--I'm going to trim down these posts to more manageable bite size single best game write ups I've got, and trust that if you want to read more you will find it at THIS WEBSITE!

    Twins 7 - White Sox 5
The Twins do not care for power hitting. It hurts the feelings of our opponents after all, and we can't have that.

  7. Oh, You Also Received a Derek Jeter Gift Basket? . . . Awkward

You wake up hazy -- perhaps a little hung-over and still tasting those apple-tinis from the previous night. Across from you in the king size bed, an aging baseball superstar stirs, gently clutching a bear-skin blanket. His eyes open. He kisses you gently on the nose and says "that was nice." He informs you that he's called a Town Car to take you home. Derek Jeter then rises, stretches,

  8. Geeking Out: OPS Minus Batting Average

It's pretty rare when you read me writing about any advanced statistics. I don't mind reading them and trying to understand what they mean and what they are telling me about a player. But I very rarely use more than a Triple Slash line (BA/OBP/SLG) with the OPS in parentheses. I like OPS, but like all stats, it needs to be used in context, and it's OK to ask questions about it.

For instance, OPS is a combination of On-Base Percentage (OBP) and Slugging Percentage (SLG). On-Base Percentage ...

  10. Twins Minor League Report (6/24): E-Town Off to Hot Start

The Twins are off today. They're in Miami, trick. But there was plenty going on in the minor leagues with both games and transactions. The transactions are all noted below, but essentially the promotion of Kyle Gibson had a trickle-down effect from AA-AAA (Logan Darnell) to hi-A to AA (Matt Summers) and Byron Buxton filling the Miracle roster spot.

Esmerling Vasquez was released from the Red Wings' disabled list. (Noteworthy mostly because it got me my first mention on MLB Trade Rumors.) ...

Before the season-started manager Gene Glynn named Kyle Gibson the number two starter in the rotation, slightly surprising considering Gibson’s hype, but would take the mound in game two against, the Buffalo Bisons.

In his first start of the year, Gibson pitched 5 innings, giving up four hits, one run, striking out four, and walking none. Leaving the game with the lead after five innings, Michael ...
  12. Hicks in AAA. Thomas stays in CF

Until Thomas stops hitting and/or Hicks starts hitting, I suggest that the Twins keep Hicks in AAA and keep Thomas in CF.

  14. What Games? Twins at Indians.

Department of Water and Power (Twins 1 Indians 5 Game 69)
It’s really easy to forget about a baseball game when you open up your blinds to see water slapping into your window like gravity made a 90 degree mistake.

Weekend baseball series are like a family cookout you can take with you on the car stereo. When the Twins are out of town, the cookout covers the Twin Cities and keeps going. You can ask strangers in blue and red for a score and they’ll tell you. If your biological ...
