Sam Deduno put together the best start of his career on Wednesday night. Pitching against the Seattle Mariners, Deduno threw seven shutout innings and allowed just two hits. He struckout a career high seven batters. Most important, and probably most inexplicable, he walked no one. He improved to 5-2 and dropped his ERA to 3.72. To say he has been a pleasant surprise is quite the understatement.

Deduno was one of 14 players from outside the organization ...

For fans of the minor leagues, this time of year is pretty fun. The Elizabethton Twins will be starting their playoff run tonight. September call-ups can start happening on Friday. The minor league regular seasons come to an end on Labor Day and then more players get called up while those playoff runs start. As you know, Beloit will be in the Midwest League playoffs, and most likely, they will be the lone Twins full-season playoff team. Today, it is expected that ...

Itís August 28th, just a handful of days remaining until September 1st. At that time, Major League rosters can expand to 40. Of course, no team is going to have all 40 members of their 40 man roster on their big league roster. Generally speaking, the Twins say they want to bring up an infielder, an outfielder, maybe an extra catcher, and a couple of arms. Also, the minor league seasons finish on Labor Day, so most of the call-ups will not happen until after that ...

No one expected a slugfest when the Mariners and Twins got together to play in Target Field. Felix Hernandez was on the mound for the Mariners, but Liam Hendriks was on the mound for the Twins. It looked like a mismatch, but it turned into one of the best pitcherís duals of the year! Liam Hendriks remains winless in the big leagues despite throwing a tremendous, tough-loss, complete game. The one mistake he made was giving up an 8th inning, opposite field ...

Cole De Vries started, and after a long rain delay, he returned and was able to go five innings. He left with a 6-2 lead. Jeff Gray came on and before too long, it was 6-5. Casey Fien did a great job in 1.2 innings, striking out three. Jared Burton pitched a scoreless eighth inning, and Glen Perkins was terrific in ...

  8. Saturday in the Minor League Parks

The Twins lost big to the Rangers, again. Maybe youíve read this story before. The Twins starting pitcher (Brian Duensing on this day) puts the Twins way behind early in the game, and the offense isnít able to catch up. Justin Morneau went 4-4 and homered for the 202nd time in his career to pass Gary Gaetti for 6th on the Twins all-time list. Pedro Florimon was 2-3 with a walk. Jamey Carroll went 2-4 with his 15th double. Joe Mauer doubled for the 26th time this year. The Twins lost for the fifth ...

The Twins/Rangers game in Arlington was over pretty quickly. Samuel Deduno gave up one run in the first inning and five runs in the second. Somehow, he got through five innings and gave up seven runs on 11 hits. He walked the first batter he faced and that was the lone walk of the night. Kyle Waldrop came in and gave up just one run over three innings.

But this game was about the Rangers. The Twins had just three hits. Adrian Beltre alone had ...

  11. Independent Thinking

The Twins organization is filled with players from all over the globe. They scout the entire country, Canada and Puerto Rico for the draft. Theyíve done a nice job signing international players in recent years. The Twins do a great job in Australia. They have players from Europe and talent from Taiwan. They have players from Central and South America, but also from South Africa.

The last couple of seasons, the Twins have gone in a direction ...
  12. Tuesday Minor League Scoreboard

Brett Andersen made his first start in just over a year since he had Tommy John surgery, and the lefty was back in fine form. He gave up just one run on four hits and no walks in seven innings. Sean Doolittle pitched a perfect eighth. Then former Twins reliever Grant Balfour recorded his 12th save with a perfect ninth. In other words, the Twins offense just did not show up. Trevor Plouffe was again 0-4 and is now 2-29 in eight games since his return from the DL. Jamey Carroll was 0-3, and he now ...
  13. Starting in September

The Twins have 41 games to go which seems like a lot. However, there are just ten days before we reach September when rosters can expand. With the Twins moves yesterday, outrighting Nick Blackburn and Tsuyoshi Nishioka, the Twins 40 man roster now sits at 38. This is great because that means that the Twins can add two players to the 40 man roster without dropping anyone else. Then again, there are a few players that could be removed without much heartache in Twins Nation.

    Starting Pitching ...
  14. Monday in the Minors

The Twins got big offense from their nine through four hitters and came away with a nice 7-1 win over the Oakland Aís, one of baseballís hottest teams. Of course, the biggest story was the performance of Brian Duensing. The lefty gave up two runs (1 earned) in six innings. He gave up five hits, walked one and struck out seven. Quite the improvement over his mid-July start against the Aís when he gave up six runs on seven hits (3 HR) in just two innings. Casey Fien pitched two scoreless innings in ...
