  1. Twins Minor League Report (7/14): Future Watch

The Minnesota Twins and the Rochester Red Wings have now begun their All Star breaks. Andrew Albers and Chris Colabello will be representing the Red Wings at the AAA game. The Twins showed again that if you can get to AAA, you can get a shot to play with the Twins. On Sunday, three Twins players were sent back to Rochester while two Red Wings were promoted to the Twins. Chris Herrmann and veteran Doug Bernier will be with the Twins along with a Player to be Named Later (likely Colabello on Friday). ...

  2. All Star Roster Shuffle

Following the Minnesota Twins impressive series win in New York against the Yankees, GM Terry Ryan shuffled the roster. Down to Rochester will be outfielders Oswaldo Arcia and Chris Parmelee, and infielder Eduardo Escobar. The Twins then promoted infielder Doug Bernier and catcher/outfielder Chris Herrmann.

This means that there is one more player to be added to the 25 man roster. I believe it can be assumed that player will be 1B/OF Chris Colabello. The MLB and AAA All Star breaks ...

  3. Twins Minor League Report (7/13): Pitchers Returns

There was not much offense through the Minnesota Twins farm system, with the normal exception of the Cedar Rapids Kernels. There was some very good pitching. There was the return of Nick Blackburn to an active roster as he made the start for the New Britain Rock Cats. Alex Wimmers returned to a mound for the first time since his Tommy John surgery last August. One constant through the 2013 season has been the pitching of Andrew Albers, and he was on the mound again for the Rochester Red Wings. ...

  4. Twins Minor League Report (7/12): Lee Lifts Kernels

After eight Minnesota Twins minor league games to report on Thursday night, it was nice that all six Twins affiliates played just one game on Friday night. There were a couple of one-run losses, and a walk-off win. Two teams had little offense, and the one team that seemingly gets big offense every day did so again. Brett Lee was easily the pitcher of the day with a complete game when his team needed in the most. With the extreme struggles and frustrations surrounding the Twins big league team, ...

  6. Twins Minor League Report (7/11): Schedule Plus

Rain was a big part of the story in the Minnesota Twins farm system on Wednesday. On Thursday, two Twins affiliates played double headers, so there were a total of eight games to follow.

Another day… Another Chris Colabello home run. Colabello often speaks of only worrying about things that are in his control. He can’t control when Terry Ryan will call him up, but he can control his approach at the plate. And frankly, his numbers have to be making Mr. Ryan consider ways to get him back ...

  7. Trade Talk: Arizona Diamondbacks

    Buyers or Sellers
They’re buyers. The Diamondbacks currently hold a 2.5 game lead in the National League Western Division over the Los Angeles Dodgers. However, their 47 victories is the lowest of any division leader at this time. They’ll want to hold off the Dodgers, but the Rockies are just 4.5 games back, and giving up on the Giants (who are 6.5 games back) would probably not be wise either.

    What They Need
Heath Bell is their closer. The 35-year-old veteran has 15 ...

  8. Twins Minor League Report (7/9): Eades Debuts

Kyle Gibson was back on the mound for the Minnesota Twins in Tampa on Tuesday night. On Tuesday afternoon, Michael Tonkin got the news that he would be promoted to the Twins as lefty Caleb Thielbar went on the bereavement list. Best wishes to the Thielbar family. It was also a tough day for a couple of Twins minor leaguers. Kaleb Merck (Kernels) and Luis Nunez (E-Twins) were both given their releases by the Twins. At the same time, one of the Twins high draftees made his professional debut. And, ...

  9. Twins Minor League Hitter of the Month - June

This is really late. Typically, I post my choices for the monthly minor league award winners within days of the end of the month. Because of a trip to Cedar Rapids and a bum computer, the hitters of the month of June are a little tardy. But, better later than never, I guess. The players listed below performed well and deserve to be recognized. It was another good month for the hitters. We have a repeat winner and a few of the top prospects in this month’s report. In fact, there were enough who warranted ...

  10. Twins Minor League Report (7/7): Summers Breezes

I have returned from Cedar Rapids and a great weekend which will likely be documented here at Twins Daily in a couple of stories and more encouragement for Twins fans to make that trek to east central Iowa. On Sunday afternoon, the Twins received one of their best starting pitching performances of the season. A new member of the organization also made a very good impression in his third game with his new team and organization.

Here’s a look at what happened in the Twins farm system ...

  11. Twins Minor League Report (7/5): live from Cedar Rapids (Video)

As you know, I have been in Cedar Rapids for their past two games against Wisconsin. They won on Thursday, but they fell 8-7 on Friday. This is a first. Following the game, my brother played cameraman, and we decided to record the minor league report. This is, essentially, a video version of what you would typically read. Let us know what you think.

I'd also like to thank everyone involved with the Kernels, from GM Dog Nelson, to the coaching staff and the players, for being great ...

  12. Twins Minor League Report (7/4): Power and Pitching Help Kernels

Adam Brett Walker knows his role on this Cedar Rapids Kernels team, and on the 4th of July, he came through. “My main goal this year was to drive in runs. I think that’s kind of a main part for me. When runners are on, runners in scoring position, I try to have a quality at bat.”

Walker came to the plate in the bottom of the 2nd inning of a scoreless game with Max Kepler on first base. Walker crushed the first pitch over the wall in left center field, and the ball likely didn’t get

  13. Trade Talk: The New York Mets

    Buyers or Sellers
As we sit here in early July, the Mets are about a dozen games behind the Atlanta Braves in the NL East. They are more than a half-dozen games behind the Washington Nationals for second in the division. In fact, they have the second-worst record in the National League, ahead of only the Miami Marlins. If the 2014 MLB draft order were selected today, the Mets would draft fifth overall. There is no question that the Mets will, or at least should, attempt to be Sellers in July. ...

  14. Twins Minor League Starting Pitcher of the Month - June

Yesterday, we reviewed the top pitching performances in June by the relief pitchers. Today, we’ll look at the top five starting pitchers in June. There were some strong performances, though there aren’t enough to need an Honorable Mention section. June is often a month when you start seeing some pitchers tire. There is a chance that some guys who have been starting to this point in the season will miss a start, or spend some of the second half of the season working out of the bullpen. By next month, ...
