  1. Twins Minor League Report (5/10): A-Mays-ing Start

One of the Twins minor league games was postponed due to rain on Friday, but there were still five games to follow. The Kernels got two terrific starting performances, and Trevor May was terrific (or, a-mays-ing?) in his start for the Rock Cats. Kennys Vargas had a couple of big hits for the Miracle, and Adam Walker remains red hot for Cedar Rapids.

Carlos Correa played in Game 1 in the matchup of last year’s #1 overall pick against last year’s #2 overall pick (Buxton). Were the two ...

  2. Twins on Twitter - Mid-May Update

It's time for our monthly look into the Twins and members of the Twins organization that are are Twitter. Last month, I added some of the staff and media associated with the minor league affiliates. This month, there are several new players who have added a twitter account including Twins reliever Ryan Pressly and uber-prospect Miguel Sano. I've also now included what percent their Twitter following has increased since last month and also since February. It's an interesting look.

    As ...

  3. Twins Minor League Reports (5/9): Rains and the Miracle Win

Rain wiped out two of the four Twins minor league affiliates. It rained much of the day in Boston, but the Twins and the Red Sox were able to get the rubber game of their series in. Rain also caused a delay in Jupiter, Florida, but the Hammerheads and the Miracle were able to finish their game.

Miguel Sano returned to the Miracle lineup on Thursday night, but he was helped out by three players who were working in Extended Spring Training just a week ago. Somehow, the Miracle just keep ...

  4. Big Night for the Twins: Arcia, Pressly, Gibson & More

It was a very good night for the Twins on Wednesday. Expectations coming into the season were that the Twins offense could be very good. To this point in the season, the Twins offense has been pretty non-good. A 15-run game can really help get things going for individuals, but hopefully also for the offense and the team as a whole.
There were a lot of highlights in the game, but amazingly, there were even a couple of important highlights for pitchers as well.

    The one negative ...

  5. Twins Minor League Report (5/7): Long Night in Toledo

On Tuesday, the Cedar Rapids Kernels had a day off. So did Miguel Sano and Eddie Rosario, though for different reasons. Sano and Rosario got their first days off for minor injuries. The Red Wings played the longest game in the Twins organization so far this year, 16 innings. The Rock Cats bats definitely got going. And, the Miracle got a nice pitching performance to make up for the loss of their top two hitters.

Jairo Rodriguez was promoted from Cedar Rapids to Fr. Myers. Bryan Santy ...

  6. Prospecting in the Rapids

Last week, Twins Director of Minor League Operations Brad Steil was in Cedar Rapids watching the Kernels play six games. In an interview with MetroSportsReport.com’s Jim Ecker, Steil said, “I think off of this team, you could easily see six to eight of those guys eventually make it to the big leagues.”

As I look at the Kernels’ current roster, I think that number could be as high as ten, with a few more high-ceiling players rehabbing in Extended Spring Training. Obviously there is a ...

  7. Twins Minor League Report (5/5): Berrios Baffles Bats

All of the Minnesota Twins’ affiliates played afternoon games on Sunday, as did the big league club. As we alluded to yesterday, the Twins had some interesting pitchers taking the mound, and they had mixed results. Sam Deduno and Cole De Vries both made their first rehab starts of the year. Top Twins Prospects JO Berrios and Alex Meyer also made starts. There were several very good offensive and pitching performances. There were also a few errors that proved costly.

    The Ft. Myers Miracle ...

  8. Twins Minor League Report (5/4): Red Wings Power

It was quite the power display for the Rochester Red Wings, something the Twins AAA-affiliate needed badly. Clete Thomas and Chris Colabello continue to make their case for a big league job. Miguel Sano and Byron Buxton continue to make their cases for being the #1 prospect in baseball going into the 2014 season.

The Twins fell again in Cleveland, but there was plenty to watch in the Twins minor leagues. There was good pitching. The top prospects each had multi-hit games. And, the Red ...

  9. Twins Minor League Relief Pitcher of the Month - April

After going through the top performing Hitters and Starting Pitchers from April, its’ time to now check out which relief pitchers performed the best in April. The Twins announced their choices of Byron Buxton and DJ Baxendale as their Hitter and Pitcher of the month, respectively. As we saw with the starting pitcher list, using an beginning and ending point (such as a month) can alter how the numbers look. Alex Meyer may be been #1 or #2 on the list if not for one inning in which he gave up four ...

  10. Twins Minor League Reports (May 3): Vargas Vaults Miracle

Friday was another good day for the two Minnesota Twins Class A affiliates while the Red Wings and Rock Cats fell short. In some pretty exciting Twins Daily news, our frequent contributor AJ Pettersen tweeted the following after tonight’s Miracle game, “I'm headed to Portland, Maine tomorrow to join the @RockCats!” Congratulation to AJ! Who knows… maybe we’ll get a great blog post telling us all about it!!

  11. Twins Minor League Starting Pitcher of the Month - April

Yesterday, we looked at the top hitters in the Twins system in May, and today, we’ll be taking a look at the top pitching performances of April. It will be separated into two blog postings, one for the relievers and this one for the starting pitchers.

While the hitting leaders were primarily in the lower levels of the Twins farm system, there are a couple of starting pitchers that appear on today’s list that may not be too far from contributing to the Twins.

    With that, ...

  12. Twins Minor League Hitter of the Month - April

It hardly seems like it has been a month. Maybe it was the cold weather, some postponements and several doubleheaders. But just because the weather was cold does not mean that there weren’t some very hot bats in the Twins farm system. The Twins had the top two teams in the minor leagues in the month of April. The Ft. Myers Miracle went 21-4. The Cedar Rapids Kernels were right behind at 18-5.

    Miguel Sano or Byron Buxton?

  13. Twins Minor League Report (4/30): Amazing April in A Ball

One month of minor league action is in the books, and for the most part, it has played out even better than could have been anticipated. The Minnesota Twins organization’s top prospects are performing very well. Just as important, several of the second-tier prospects have been able to establish themselves early in the season. The Ft. Myers Miracle has the most wins of any team in the minor leagues. The Cedar Rapids Kernels have a roster filled with players who were on the Beloit playoff team a year ...

  14. Twins 3, Tigers 4: The Value of Each Play

On Monday night, the Minnesota Twins began a three-game series in Detroit against the Tigers. It was Mike Pelfrey facing Max Scherzer. You likely watched the game or saw the box score already when you read this, so you know that the Twins fell by the final score of 4-3.

It was interesting to watch the game while at the same time calculating the Twins Win Expectancy after each and every play throughout the game. Win Expectancy is a number that changes with every game situation. Someone ...
