As fans have endured three straight 90-plus loss seasons, it’s been obvious that one of – and probably the biggest – roots of the problem is the lack of quality starters. Essentially, the Twins have employed a collection of #4 starters and have failed to draft or sign frontline starters. We saw the late 2012 trades to acquire Alex Meyer and Trevor May followed by the drafting of Texas prep hurler Kohl Stewart as signs that the Twins recognized this issue and have started to correct it.
The Twins and Brewers started a four-game home-and-home set Monday night. Between this series and the upcoming draft, there should be plenty of newsworthy topics.
But the newsiest news dropped after the Kernels game when Jake Mauer informed the media that Ps Derrick Penilla and Felix Jorge were being sent back to extended spring training. He couldn't confirm who would be taking their places, but floated Ps Lewis Thorpe and Fernando Romero as possibilities.

People love mock drafts. I think, mostly, so that you can mock the people that put some guesses down on paper for the world to scrutinize. I'm not above that.
I regret not putting one together two years ago. Somewhere, on a message board on this site, I predicted that the Twins take Adam Brett Walker (though I had the round incorrect). Last year, I noted how much I liked Brian Navaretto, who the Twins also drafted. I was a big fan of Stephen Gonsalves (though
This is the second go-around at putting a mock draft together. The final installment will come on draft-day morning.
1. Houston - Brady Aiken, LPH, California prep - It’s becoming more apparent that the Astros are looking to save some cash here. If they can do that and get the top pitcher in the draft, great. If they can do that and not take a pitcher, that might be better. But for now, it’s Aiken. (Last week: Carlos Rodon, LHP, NC State)
2. Miami - Alex Jackson, C/OF,
Join Seth and me tonight as we discuss the last week of action in Twins Territory. We'll be sure to discuss the latest roster moves as well as the recent decision by Aaron Hicks to give up switch-hitting. What's this latest losing streak mean? We'll talk about that too. If you have questions, please leave them below.
Happy Memorial Day!
The Twins returned from their west coast trip fresh off of a Giant sweeping. They were in action Monday afternoon against the Rangers. It marked the first game that Aaron Hicks played as only a right-handed batter. It also marked the first loss of Aaron Hicks’ career playing as only a right-handed batter.
After Sunday’s game, it was announced that both OF Josh Willingham and OF Oswaldo Arcia would be re-joining the Twins. Heading back to Rochester

The Twins, who fell back to .500 with yesterday’s loss, have an off day before starting their National League west-coast road-swing. It’s two against the Padres and three against the Giants before starting a four-game home stand against the Rangers.

The story of this game revolves around two players: Trevor May and Oswaldo Arcia.

The people have spoken. If it's mock drafts you want... well, that's what you're going to get.
1. Houston - Carlos Rodon, LHP, NC State - The Astros have employed two very different strategies the last two years: They drafted Carlos Correa who wasn't perceived to be the top prospect to save money to draft guys who dropped later. Last year they took the #1 talent in Mark Appel. If they choose to go with the talent - which they should because the drop off
This is the fourth in a series of (somewhat) weekly installments leading up to the June 5th through 7th draft. The focus is intended to be very Twins-specific.

Part 2: The Top
Part 3: What's New?
While you may read the title and think I’m referring to a 10-game Pedro Florimon stretch, I’m actually going to spotlight a handful of players that could be in play when the Twins go on the clock with the 45th overall pick.
Join Seth and I tonight at 9:00 pm for the newest episode of our Google Hangout.

When we left off in this series in late April, we looked at a handful of guys that the Twins would possibly consider at #5. Since that point, a lot has happened.
