2020 MLB Draft Day 2 Thread

After a night where the Minnesota Twins added yet another powerful bat to their farm system that is loaded with them, they look to add three more new young and exciting prospects into the Twins minor league ranks, with picks in the second, fourth and fifth rounds.
If you want to read up more on last night’s selection you can do so here:

Twins Select Aaron Sabato with the 27th Overall Pick

Day two of the MLB Draft starts Thursday evening at 4:00 pm CT and can be watched on either ESPN 2 or on MLB Network. It can also be streamed live on MLB.com.

In total, the Twins have three more picks tonight, which is two less than they were originally scheduled to have. As they traded their Competitive Balance Round B pick to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Kenta Maeda trade, and forfeited their third-round pick by signing Josh Donaldson. Here is a breakdown of the three picks the Twins do have tonight, and the bonus money attached to each of those picks.

2nd Round: 59th Overall - $1,185,500
4th Round: 128th Overall - $442,900
5th Round: 158th Overall - $330,100

While many of the top players have already been taken, there is still plenty of talent that should be available when the Twins make their first selection of the night at pick number 59. In total 17 of my top 50 prospects are still available. Throughout the night, I will be updating the list of the top 10 prospects still available down below, going all the way through my top 100 prospects.

I really like Gage Workman (3B from ASU). He is strong enough defensively to play SS, but has the power to play 3B. If he is available, I would take him.

If he's gone, then I am fine using the next three picks on pitchers.

I want the Twins to go best name available and take CA HS SS Milán Tolentino sometime today. Here are Andrew and Nash's hopes for the day. They're not biased or anything :)

No. 59 overall is the same spot the Twins took Ryan Jeffers a couple years ago. Notable No. 59 picks include Nolan Arenado, Dean Palmer, Roger McDowell and former Twins great Ryan Doumit.

Without knowing anything, I’ll be hoping Cole Wilcox is available.

I'm assuming that some or many of the players who were mentioned as late-first-round candidates and haven't been drafted yet are getting hard to sign at this point and will go undrafted, given that the draft is short, bonus pools are small, and going back to school may be more appealing than usual. But kinda wondering if Beeter will be there at pick 59?

The Tigers are winning in the name department so far with Spencer Torkelson and Dillon Dingler.

Jared Kelley finally off the board to the White Sox at pick #47. Great pick for them, ugh...

I know that draft eligible sophomores usually cost more than Juniors. Would it be too difficult to sign two eligible sophomores this year?

We already drafted Sabato, and I think a lot of the best guys left are sophomores too: Ginn, Wilcox, Henry, (and I THINK Beeter too)

Hearing the Twins won't be taking my guy (Harrison), so now I'll hope on Wilcox or Beeter.

Beeter is a name that keeps coming up by Twins fans today. He has big upside with a plus fastball, a plus curveball and an average changeup. However, he comes in at just number 70 on my list due to control issues and limited experience starting with just 4 starts in his career at Texas Tech.

Here we go. There are some guys still out there I think I'd like as prospects over Sabato.

Well of course the Dodgers take Clayton Beeter with the pick the Twins traded to them for Kenta Maeda.

Doug Mientkiewicz was taken with the No. 128 overall pick in the 1995 MLB Draft. Just sayin'.

Right position, but Mientkiewicz's launch angle is a smidge below what the Twins covet in 2020.

That was one of those comments that was both a joke and not a joke. There's probably an emoji for that but I'm as bad with emojis as I am with jokes.

No. Cavaco is born in 2001. And maybe some other guys from last year.
