This is my absolute dream match-up. Pure entertainment watching these two guys throw.
And it's quite possible that we may see two 10-walk no-hitters today.
I am not sure if what I saw was official, as ESPN sometimes makes a mistake. But let's put it this way, Butera is STILL in the damn lineup (FYI, Chris Herrmann has hit lefties surprisingly well) and Escobar is batting second instead of Mastro. Escobar is a middle infielder, you see, so . . . I swear if he were playing third and Plouffe playing second, Plouffe would be batting second . . .
I think this is theTwins line-up:
Deduno pitching
Revere, B, CF .299
Escobar, E, 2B .213
Willingham, J, LF .259
Morneau, J, 1B .280
Plouffe, T, 3B .234
Parmelee, C, DH .250
Mastroianni, D, RF .253
Butera, D, C .208
Florimon, P, SS .241
Have to go find the White Sox - but I did see them score already.
White Sox line-up
Frankie pitching
A. De Aza CF K. Youkilis 3B A. Dunn 1B P. Konerko DH A. Rios RF A.J. Pierzynski C D. Viciedo LF A. Ramirez SS G. Beckham 2B
Not looking good so far.
As it stands, if Liriano gives up no more baserunners, it will be Escobar he would face to capture his second no hitter.
Damn it. I've never seen a no hitter live.
Plouffe!!!
Great for Plouffe to go deep again.
Bert & Dick were talking about next year's MI. They indicated they thought two light hitting middle infielders would be fine if they had productivity from 3rd (Plouffe) and the OF. I agree, especially if the light hitting guys can really field. So far I'm not seeing it from Florimon, who has hit acceptably if he was a defensive wizard, but he's not. Too soon to tell on Escobar. I'll throw this out to see if the Chief is around. If they want their best defensive middle infielder who can steal bases, Casilla is the best option.
9 times out of 10, Span pulls up on AJs drive and plays that one off the wall for a bases-clearing 2-bagger. Way to go, Revere.
Are the Sox sending a message by beating the Twins with Liriano and Crain? Is anyone in the Twins' front office listening?
Don't start in on the Chief-needle already, too early in the day.
The White Sox are doing great with Beckham (240) and Ramirez (270) at the 8 and 9 spots in the order. Casilla (222) would work if one of the other 3 guys could reliably hit close to 270, don't see it from either of the newcomers.
Hammer time? It would be great to tie this one up.
