Sam needs (and deserves) solid infield defense tonight. Fingers crossed.

Nice! Nishioka goes 0-5 with two errors (one on a routine grounder a 9 yr old handles) and he starts again. Granted Casilla isn't exactly ripping the cover off of the ball, but.... what crarko said!

You don't bench a guy for one bad day, especially his first day with the team.

In fact, it's the opposite of what you do. You throw that guy out there again and show him that you have confidence in his ability to play baseball.

Not that any of us have any confidence in Nishioka's ability to play baseball but Gardy's doing the right thing.

Agreed, just like a closer with a blown save.

You would have to admit, not all the confidence-boosting methods in the world will have the remotest chance of changing what IS is.

It's a general theory both this year and last, and exposited today on the radio, that Gardy's hands are tied on this one and is following the directive from the front office. Sadly, despite the club remaining in denial, the odds are staggering that this can only end one way- with egg on everyone's face.

Is the old Justin back? Yeah, if not all the way back, very close to it. He just looks so much more confident.
Thanks for posting the start of this thread. I appreciate all the info and the lineups.

Nishi needs to figure out how to relax. The man looks like he mentally ties himself in knots out there, which leads to him physically tie himself in knots like he did on that first play last night.

It's like watching a well-meaning but hopelessly nervous guy on a first date who keeps spilling drinks and saying stupid things. Sure, he'll never be the Dos Equis guy, but if he could just find a way to relax, he'd at least avoid humiliating himself. And a non-humiliating effort would be a step in the right direction for Nishi.

Have we tried having him do a few shots before first pitch? Maybe he'd calm down and play better if he were a little liquored up.

Deduno hasn't given up more than 3 ER in a start this year in the majors. That's good, though he's only qualified for a quality start 2 or 3 times I believe. Keep it rolling tonight boys! (though I'm betting at least one more error from Nishi)

I think this discussion they had about Morneau in the first inning states why I'd rather not trade him. This team has precious few on field leaders, but he can be the best of them. You think of Puck's "climb on my back" statement, and who else is here to do that now? Maybe the Hammer.

I'm not sure how, but the HR was undoubtedly Nishioka's fault.

Well that wasn't predictable in the least. It was a good run Sammy.

The bench must be further away from the mound in Cleveland, Drew's whispers aren't reaching him.

Are we allowed to be negative about DeDuno yet?
