Most likely just a day off, Mauer has been playing nearly every day for a while and he has started to struggle a bit (past 3-4 games)

Yeah, the Twins haven't had a day off in awhile and I assume that Mauer is just taking a day off to rest.

Joe C at StarTrib said in his lineup write up that Gardenhire said even during the last series (or over the weekend) that Mauer would get a day off on the road trip. Shouldn't be cause for alarm. (Oh please, oh please, oh please...with apologies to Gary Larson for using his material.)

Mauer didn't have a very good series against the WSox. Giving him a day vs. a tough lefty isn't a bad thing. Besides, Gardy said that he wanted Butera to play pretty soon (ugh!).

September can't come soon enough so we can have a expanded roster.

Of course he's also calling a one hit shutout from a wild pitcher through five innings.

I agree and I would submit that Deduno and Butera deserve a lot of praise for their performances tonight.

Every time Dickbert talks about Drew somewhere a kitten is killed.

And three outs to go with it.

If Deduno ever got that fastball across the plate a lot of people could de-angst about Liriano.
