Those are some bad pitching matchups. Thankfully these games are "not played on paper".....I wonder how much longer people will say that, instead of something like "not run by computer simulation"?*

*though I'm sure it will be catchier than that.....

Hope it helps as much as missing Sale did in the previous Sox series.

As per ESPN....

Mauer was held out of Friday's lineup against the Red Sox due to back stiffness, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
Spin:
As a result, consider him day-to-day. Ryan Doumit is catching Friday for the Twins, while Chris Parmelee is moving up to the No. 2 spot in the Minnesota batting order.

It isn't a major concern, but Twins manager Ron Gardenhire didn't want take any chances. Consider him day-to-day.

Joe was probably working on the kids' room on his off day and overdid it with the hammer or paintbrush. Different set of muscles than his day job.

List of ways that Joe could have hurt his back:
1. Ducking out of the way from a shoe thrown at him by an angry Iraqi during press conference.
2. Pulling a train with his teeth.
3. Announcing to the team... Jump on my back... I'll carry you and the team actually jumped on his back.
4. Heavy Japenese Masseuse walking on back and forgetting to take her stilettos off.
5. Trying out for the next season of Dancing with the Stars and trying to prove something while auditioning after being rejected during his audition for American Idol and The Voice.
6. After being rejected during his audition for the Voice. He was offered an audition as a judge and he spun around in his chair too quickly.

Maybe... I think Baltimore didn't want to call him up last year either... They had to because they were fighting for a playoff spot and Reynolds was struggling. He became their best 3B option.

I think the possibility of the playoffs and a hole forced their hand.

i had great seats from his last start behind home plate. The guy really needed to keep the ball down and mix it up.

He was up up up and he got scored on... He was down and he was effective. I also think he needs to use a breaking pitch more to off balance the hitters a little.

According to Twins' GM Rob Antony, Rich Harden's rehab has been "slow" and "not very well to be honest".

Harden felt soreness in his surgically-repaired shoulder while throwing a few weeks ago, and hasn't progressed much since suffering that setback. It's starting to look like a longshot that the oft-injured right-hander will ever make an impact for the Twins.

Darin Mastroianni will undergo surgery on Wednesday to repair a bone chip on his left ankle, and will be sidelined for at least six weeks.

It was a very discouraging sign when Mastroianni, who was already progressing slowly in his recovery, was uncomfortable testing his ankle during light sprints on Wednesday. He shouldn't be expected to return to the Twins until after the All-Star break and can safely be dropped in deeper mixed formats.

There are many variables here, but it depends on how many good pitchers are available on the waiver wire. 12 teams... But you have Saves, Holds and IP categories and you must carry 15 pitchers exactly.

It works best to carry 6 SP and stream a 7th to go after the IP... Leaving a combination of closers and set up guys for the holds and saves.

Hellickson struck out four and walked one in the game. After allowing three early runs, Hellickson was on cruise control after the Rays offense bombarded the Orioles with 12 runs through the first six innings. He ran into trouble in the eighth though, where the O’s tagged him for four more runs before chasing him from the game. Tony Cingrani yielded three runs in five innings Friday in a no-decision against the Phillies.

Following his recent bout of shoulder soreness, Cingrani needed 100 pitches to complete the five frames. After posting a 1.50 ERA over his first three starts in the majors, the southpaw has allowed nine runs in 15 innings over his last three starts and has served up five homers in the process. We still like Cingrani for the long-term, but he could be headed back to the minors next week when Johnny Cueto (lat) returns from the disabled list.

WTF Arcia?

He doesn't understand English... Hicks was yelling ball ball ball. Arcia thought he was saying Bajar.

I'll sleep easy now. I don't know what I would have done tonight without a Tony Cingrani update.

Gun... Was helping me out... Hellickson and Cingrani are on my fantasy team. I appreciated it.

How can you let this happen?

Chalk this up to Dozier's 1st inning error, Willinghammer not being able to drive in a runner from third with one out, and a bad top of the 10th.

Predictably horrid end. Nasty, brutal and short.

That's a Hobbesian ending if I ever heard of one

Add in Florimon's DP chance.

I saw Hellickson mentioned early on, must have glossed over Cingrani.

Yeah...that was a tough play, IMO. Could have been made, sure, but not in the "should have been made" category IMO. Tough for me to find a lot of fault for not making a play that would make the nightly highlight real if he did make it.

I couldn't find what I was looking for, so Chief provided me with a home video instead.

Yet... The defensive... Light hitting SS's are supposed to make the tough play.

When they do... I typically say... I don't care if you hit .220

When they don't... I typically say... ok... Well you better go yard then...

Wait a minute...

Nevermind.
