I for one am glad we have a soft tossing lefty throwing in Fenway tonight instead of a spendy free agent.

Gardy has finally seen enough of the adventures in fielding. The little elf is once again asserting his stabilizing influence on the field, not just as the "celebrated locker room mentor" role that the FO foisted upon him in April.

This one is truly bizarre. 2 lefties in a row in Fenway? And a short-rookie looking for boosts in his confidence? This was the perfect night for the Gibson spot start given that he is starting tonight for Rochester.

I'll give you maybe Gibson should be up already, but why would you want a spendy free agent this year? Complain in 2 years if they don't go out and spend for that 5th guy to make us a contender, not this year when we either should be looking at our young guys or getting by on the cheap.

Wish we'd get to the point where we know exactly what Floriman is. Then Carroll and Dozier can start every game and Flori can be in someone else's AAA affiliate.

Wish we'd get to the point where we know exactly what Floriman is. Then Carroll and Dozier can start every game and Flori can be in someone else's AAA affiliate. Seems odd to me you'd argue for more Carroll one post after arguing against adding pitching because we should be "looking at our young guys or getting by on the cheap." Carroll's cheap, but he's not going to be part of any future good Twins team.

Webster didn't have a very big zone either. However, a power pitcher might not need the corners the way Hernandez does. They can probably sent Hernandez down and replace him with Gibson. This is an interesting problem with the crowded corner OF and none of whom can play CF every day where we need the help. Arcia must stay up. No way you can send him down.

Chief, do you remember Chris Short, a pretty good pitcher for the Phillies in the 60s? He was famous for only lasting two hours, no matter how far the game had gone. In '64, in the last week when the Phils collapsed, Mauch twice went with Short too long and the Phils lost both of those games. Vaguely. I didn't pay a lot of attention to the NL in those days, and of course it was a lot harder to follow other teams then, too. I certainly remember Mauch's days with the Twins though.

Yup, after Hernandez left in the second I thought another starter may be needed at some point tonight and a spot starter might get called from Rochester. Now the Twins can resume the regular rotation and until Gibson's services are requested to replace Hernandez or Pelfrey next week.

Edit: Check that, Dick says despite Gibson's awesome effort tonight Hernandez has earned enough rope to stay in the rotation. There you have it from a voice of authority. Gibson is less deserving than Hernandez.
