Doubleheaders* are freakin' awesome, especially after too many days with no Twins baseball. *even split DHers.

Agreed. I understand why owners are loathe to schedule them but damn, I love me a doubleheader.

Stat of the day Twins are one of 7 teams with 7 or less losses.

Arcia with the battlefield commission.

Strange. Gardenhire and Ryan have both acted quite out of character this season and while they haven't hit on everything (Hicks), at least they're making the team interesting to follow.

I have had the feeling since day 1 that Gardy has either evolved his managing, or been told to evolve his managing. I was never on the "Fire Gardy" bandwagon, far from it. But even I can see he is much better this year.

Interesting lineup. Plouffe gets his first time off, "Willie" gets the second game off and Ramirez is the only guy not to get a start in either game. Maybe Wilkin is only on the team to translate. It is nice to have a guy like Willingham on the bench if a big swing is needed to win a game.

ashburyjohn
04-23-2013, 06:27 PM
Ramirez is the only guy not to get a start in either game.

Kind of confirms what we knew going into the season, the positions the Twins are overstocked at are the outfield corners and/or first base.

It would be natural to swap out Parmelee, so I guess TPTB really want to give him every chance to establish himself.

Sorry, I was away for a bit. When I answered, I actually thought it was his first game at leadoff - so many postponements, and the previous game had Carroll leading off. I didn't really mean to be dismissive.

But he did well in his other two games. You can find all kinds of situational splits on him here:
Brian Dozier 2013 Batting Splits - Baseball-Reference.com (http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=doziebr01&year=2013&t=b)
Batting first in the lineup, he's got 11 PA in 2 games, yielding 1 walk and 4 hits (all singles), 1strikeout, and scoring 2 runs. Today's first game improves on that a little; let's hope game 2 does likewise.

I took a look at Doumit's split between catcher and DH. As a DH he's been below mediocre, BA of .238, OPS .638. But as catcher, well, maybe we should give that Butera fellow another look-see: BA .077, OPS .404.

I took a look at Doumit's split between catcher and DH. As a DH he's been below mediocre, BA of .238, OPS .638. But as catcher, well, maybe we should give that Butera fellow another look-see: BA .077, OPS .404.

Fun with small-sample-size, I know.

Have you ever tried to hit with a chest protector and face mask?

When it comes to Butera, there are some here who would... no, I will not say it.

At some point, teams will need to see if Hicks can actually hit like Bonds before they keep pitching around him like Bonds, right?

Well, we could be surviving these single-run innings, but that crooked number in the first is the killer at this point. Thanks, Pelf. If Gardy gives you another start, maybe I save the Ugly Girl avatar for you.

This is way too much offense being produced by the lowly fish. Now way they should score 7 on 13 hits in 6.1 innings.

And hey, some of us have been down this sort of road, like being found in a compromising situation with unidentical, underage squash twins.
