I'll say the Twins hit 2 homers. Not sure from who. Arcia 2-3 with a double and a walk.

Adam Dunn, now 0 for his last 30 and batting .097. 23 Ks and 3 BBs in 61 ABs. OPS? .367

He makes up for it with his defense, anyway.

Yes, as a DH he is an elite defender.

I think he was in consideration for a Gold Glove last year at the DH position. A lot of guys just go through the motions at the position, but Dunn is always alert for foul balls while on the bench.

He's on the third year of a 4/$56 million deal.

So far this year Hicks is using the bat primarily as a fashion accessory. His OBP is more than 4x his BA. I can't imagine that happens very often once a guy plays more than a few games.

I hope Hicks breaks out of it- it's impressive that he can keep taking walks. I'm sure it's tempting to swing like crazy and hope to at least make contact instead of taking a called strike three.

I'll bet that after review, tonight or tomorrow, the official scorer will change it to an error, as it should be. But, without looking at this, it may be that errors-to-hit reversals are more likely that hit-to-error changes.

de Aza should buy a lottery ticket. He's not only scored both runs, he's gotten two hits from the official scorers on plays that easily could have been errors.

Ditto for Keppinger, who's on a Hicks/Dunn level hitless streak but has gotten both RBIs by letting the ball hit his bat.

Diamond has basically gone 6 innings, two hits and two unearned runs, unless you are drinking with the official scorer.

I think the 3-0 pitch may have been close. Maybe it was the 2-0 pitch.

But IIRC, those first two pitches were waaaaaaaayyy outside. And when a pitcher starts off an AB like that, you make him throw a strike before swinging.

I don't care how bad Adam Dunn *has* been, you do NOT throw a right-hander at him if you can avoid it. Either Diamond or a one-and-done Duensing there. Roenicke is meat for Dunn. And lo and behold.

But I am glad for Hicks, there. And Mauer taking the walk--in that case--forcing either a LH situation for Willingham or another pitching change was good.

04-21-2013, 03:36 PM
Yeah, if you are unlucky enough to throw it where Dunn swings, it can go a long, long way. It's often straight up, but not that one.

That would add up to two more solid starters than last year, and Pelfry is showing flashes of competence. That would make 4 solid starters with Deduno and Hendriks possibly adding to the list.

I understand the argument about closers being overvalued, and I definitely get frustrated when a team blows a lead in a key situation in the 8th with the closer on the bench. Even so, there's still something special when a really good closer starts the 9th.

Those of us who lived through the Ron Davis years have a lot to work through.

Yes, but when the Twins play that cloth is blue with the word "Minnesota" on the front.

KAAAAAAAA_Boooooooommmmmm! My only regret is I'm not watching on TV to hear Hawk say "Dadgummit" and tell us how the Sox deserved to win.

Nice work Glunn... You did it.

Whew... Apparently... Jinxes like that don't work in Idaho... or when Preachers are responsible.

That was scary.

Sadly he did not say it. But let's hope he gets lots more chances this season.

I hurt my ankle a bit running up the stairs, but it was worth it. I have to keep that shirt hidden because wife says it looks like a rag and has thrown away other shirts of that description.

Now I can check other division scores without bad juju.

Anyone have access to WSI? Knowing their propensity to be chicken littles, its gotta be pure gold over there right now. Here you go (http://www.whitesoxinteractive.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=137766).

I have to say Hawk was on his best behavior during the game. He did mention once that if the Twins had spent money 10-12 years ago they could have won 3-4 titles (titles? what?). And that, correctly, they are going to have to spend some more to win it again.

Just think about all that Beltre talk years ago . . .

Hawk is not intelligent, but it is interesting that he mentioned it at least twice today (and Stone agreed).

I love WSI. The best was always when Punto did something to beat them, the post-game threads were always golden.

That would be the best crow sandwich in history. I want mine on wheat toast with mustard.

I am hoping that Slowey has jinxed the Marlins by starting a thread on TD.

---Yeah I really hope I'm forced to eat some as well. What we're seeing so far is more what I thought 2012 would be like.

Nobody in the AL Central looks poised to set the world on fire here, so hanging around .500 probably means hanging in the division race. The Twins manage to do that, and we're looking at a pretty mediocre baseball team, but a mediocre baseball team that could still be playing meaningful games in August. Not exactly something to aspire to, but after the last 2 years, I'll gladly take it.

We shall see. Gotta have a good homestand here, after that it's a 10-game road trip to Detroit, Cleveland and Boston.

I am watching the Tigers at the Angels now. Unfortunately they are in the 11th inning and that stupid rally monkey is not helping. Hopefully this will go another 9+ innings and the Tigers' relief staff will be tired for weeks.

Walk off wins at the dome from something cheesy like an error or wild pitch were great. They would get so riled up they would threaten to punch each other in the neck.

Usually they only threaten violence against other teams' fans.

I registered there a couple years ago before they made their game threads private. I think I got one post out before the ban came. Date ban will be lifted...never.
