Denard Span CF

Sean Burroughs 3B
Brian Dozier SS
Brian Dinkelman RF
Drew Butera C

SP - Francisco Liriano

If there's one thing we can all say, it's that Justin Morneau is tough and he's going to try to work through anything! Even if that means the longer bus ride to Tampa!

Curious to see how Doumit can perform at 1B.

Surprised to see Willingham in LF. Dinkelman could play there.

I thought the exact same thing when I saw him in today's lineup. At the very least, it has to mean that the guy is feeling healthy enough to go out and play. There's no way the team physicians and trainers would let him play -- in unimportant Spring Training games -- if the wrist issues were that bothersome.

I tweeted Mackey, asking if there was any comment or reasoning for Willingham in LF.

Mackey's response was that Gardy really likes Plouffe in RF.

so, my thinking is that you could have the following scenario:

vs RHP - Revere in LF, Willingham in RF
vs LHP - Willingham in LF, Plouffe in RF -- > Certainly adds some power vs LHP with those two in it!!!

Or Willingham could go to DH, with Plouffe in RF and Doumit catching, with either Mauer or Morneau getting a day off. Or both getting a day off with Hughes at first. There are actually a lot ways to contruct a lineup this year. The Twins will likely miss Thome in some ways but this group will likely be a lot more flexible.

What I don't understand is why Rivera is not catching Liriano instead of Butera in this game... this is not a good sign. Hope that Liriano can overcome that

Watching the game on YES. 3 pitches 2 outs...

The Twins can't beat the Yankees even in spring training.

Thrylos

Jeter singles to the RF on a 1-2 count

Thrylos
03-23-2012, 11:19 AM
Liriano went 0-2 on both batters he faced so far with FBs... K's Granderson with his 3rd pitch a slider

Thrylos
03-23-2012, 11:21 AM
Liriano's FB up to 93 per the YES gun. Fell back 3-1 to Texeira gets hit to fly out to RF

Thrylos
03-23-2012, 11:22 AM
0-2 to A-Roid, K's on a change up. FranKKie!!!

Thrylos
03-23-2012, 11:26 AM
Nova pretty dominant as well, Morneau soft pop fly at LF, Willingham K's

Thrylos
03-23-2012, 11:27 AM
Burroughs strikes out swinging too

Thrylos
03-23-2012, 11:28 AM
Nova has a very very dirty curve. Doumit struck out looking at it and both Willingham and Burroughs were swinging at pitches at their shoelaces

Thrylos
03-23-2012, 11:31 AM
FranKKie gets ahead of Martin 0-2 and gets him to fly out to shallow center

Thrylos
03-23-2012, 11:33 AM
Jones flies out to shallow center on a FB (previous 2 Ps sliders). Nunez gets a hit just off the range of Florimon on a weakly hit change. 24 pitchies for FranKKie

Thrylos

0-2 to Hall too. Now 0-3. FranKKKie with 26 pitches in 2 IP. Looking very good.

0-2 to Hall too. Now 0-3. FranKKKie with 26 pitches in 2 IP. Looking very good.

Most important stat there is the 26 total pitches and he has accumulated 6 outs.

Dozier almost beats a soft trickle to the SS

Dinkelman swings at his shoelaces. K. 2-outs

Thrylos
03-23-2012, 11:40 AM
Butera flies out to short Right Center

Thrylos
03-23-2012, 11:43 AM
Burroughs two hops the throw to 1B on a routine play to yield an infield single. Jeter GIDP. 2 outs.

Thrylos
03-23-2012, 11:45 AM
Ground out for Granderson. 3 ground outs (1 should had been) in this inning for FranKKKie. 31 total pitches.

Thrylos
03-23-2012, 11:49 AM
Span grounds out in one pitch (he really should be taking more), Florimon does the same, So does Doumit.

Thrylos
03-23-2012, 11:56 AM
FranKKKKie continues his game... Walk to Texeira, K to ARoid and gets Martin to GIDP. Nice and efficient. He might go 6-7 today.

Thrylos, spit up a little laughing with the "hopefully Liriano can overcome Butera catching" instead of Rivera. Looks like he's doing just fine, an omen, I hope, for the entire year no matter who's catching.

Frankie jams Hall with a slider inside and Doumit get the pop up by the Yankee dugout 2 outs 56 total pitches

I think I am still stuck in single-A.

Florimon looks really over-matched at the plate. I suspect that he will be assigned to the minors soon. Nice single by Doumit

Thrylos

Morneau's fly ball out was a foot short off the warning track.

Thrylos

Willingham's ground rule double landed at the Twins' pen and almost got the bullpen catcher (Number 89 - have no idea who that is)

Thrylos

Nice single by Burroughs to get the runs home with 2 outs. Battled a lot of pitches. Great PA.

Thrylos
03-23-2012, 12:30 PM
Manship in and gives up a very long fly ball to Romero Pena (LHB) on the first pitch an 85mph something or another (straight) in the lower middle of the plate

Morneau is really getting a hold of the ball today. Hope this is a sign of things to come.

Thrylos

I think that that 84 mph pitch that Manship threw for a home run was a FB. His off-speed stuff is at 75-76

Missed a HR by 3 inches... I just do not like Manship's chances to make the team right now. That 84-86 FB velocity on the same gun that got Liriano at 94 is concerning.

Mr. Ed
03-23-2012, 12:52 PM
If Manship is not hitting much speed? Pass. Sorry dude, but that speed is not going to cut it.

Thrylos
03-23-2012, 12:52 PM
Manship did not get anyone out and allowed 3 runs so far in the inning. Hollimons "error" was a smoked line drive on the 3B line. Announcers said should be a hit. Burton in. Very disappointing outing

Mr. Ed
03-23-2012, 12:53 PM
Quite a test for Burton to put the fire out w/heart of NYY order coming.

Mr. Ed
03-23-2012, 12:57 PM
And the Yanks score some more. Have to get inherited runners stranded as a bullpen guy.

That is very concerning and interesting because he had been throwing 88-92 earlier in the spring.

Mr. Ed
03-23-2012, 01:02 PM
Was Manship throwing that slowly in the first inning of work too?

Very concerning.

Unfortunate that the Twins took this long before they face a new guy. Unfortunately, that guy is Mariano Rivera.

Thrylos
03-23-2012, 01:06 PM
At least I thought it was his FB, unless his change is that fast and lifeless and was throwing it all the time... This could be the case, but then it is not really much of a change. He got a couple off speed pitches at mid 70s. So not sure what's up. Mariano's gun numbers were 88-89, which is pretty true. Hope Manship is ok, but he just did not have it today.

Thrylos

Waldrop's sinker at 87-89 which is pretty true speed for him

Holimon is at 3B
Towles C

With the line of 1+ IP, 4 H, 6 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, and 1 K, not a good sign for Manship getting a job with the big league club.

J-Dog Dungan
03-23-2012, 01:13 PM

Thrylos
