Ben Revere leads off the game with a single past a diving Dustin Pedroia.

The game is on MLB.tv too. I didn't have to log in to bring the game up, so it may be "free"... if anyone doesnt get MLB Network and wants to try the internet

I love the look of the new ballpark the RSox have. They're talking about a facelift for Hammond Stadium soon and they really should take a page out of what they did at JetBlue. They should configure Hammond to replicate Target Field's dimensions and fence height. Let players get a feel for what they'll be playing in when the season starts.

Anyway, I've already got a ticket for a Twins/RSox game over at JetBlue toward the end of ST and I'm really looking forward to seeing it in person!

NESN broadcasters talking about Gardy claiming the Mayors Cup competition is over. They... disagree.

I like the idea of renovating Hammond Stadium to look like Target Field. I'd feel horrible for the Ft. Myers Miracle players, but oh well.

I discovered that too, jamar. Unfortunately CR doesn't have Sprint's 4G service yet and at the regular data rate, the live streaming video is crap. :(

The Mayor's Cup is cool in theory. But it really means absolutely nothing.

I suspect that the ball would carry more in Ft Myers, especially in the summer, than it does in Minnesota so I don't think it would be quite as power-killing. Besides, if the Miracle players expect to play for the Twins, they might as well get used to it. It also could allow Twins talent evaluators to get a sense of how a player's game might eventually translate to TF.

The Mayor's Cup is cool in theory. But it really means absolutely nothing.

NESN broadcasters were joking that a year ago, they laughed and said that losing the Mayors Cup might be the beginning of the end for Terry Francona... didn't turn out to be so funny when it became true!

I suspect the same is true here but will at least be able to listen to the end of day games on the bus.

Francisco Liriano walks the first batter he faces, Dustin Pedroia. He then got a double play on a liner to Aaron Bates at 1B. He then struck out Cody Ross.

1-2-3 inning for Burton not bad (but not really against MLB competition)

Jim Crikket
03-04-2012, 01:40 PM
Burton fell behind one hitter 3-0 before getting the ground out on the dive by Chang, but otherwise a very clean inning. Fastball was 90-91 on the NESN gun, but a nice change up or two.

Suffice to say that Burroughs did nothing this inning to reinforce the belief that he'd be a defensive upgrade over Valencia.

Yes, that's the plan, as long as we have people show up. Babs and I were discussing last night when we want to do the first one. She and Andrew are down in Ft Myers, but I may open up a chat at Knuckleballs for the game tomorrow night. That's on TV in Minn, right?

And the Twins are paying for it, as they should, but still unclear on whether moving to the 60-day DL or released.

Yeah, I'm glad Zumaya is going ahead with the surgery. If it doesn't work, he's no worse off and he can live with it knowing he didn't walk away too soon.

Jim Crikket

When you have tons of pitchers in camp and coaches looking for any way possible to separate guys, you really don't want to start out with an inning like Bulger had. Ouch.

No kidding. He would need a big shovel to dig himself out of this one...

Seth Stohs
03-04-2012, 03:23 PM
Obviously not a great performance, but he'll likely get 9-10 more outings. We'll have to see if he can throw some strikes. Clearly that's the key.

Thrylos
03-04-2012, 03:26 PM
He will be lucky to get a third outing if he repeats this one. Too many pitchers in camp to be patient with the underperformers.

Jim Crikket
03-04-2012, 03:38 PM
I agree with Seth that throwing strikes will be key. His pitches had a lot of movement, which is great. But if he cant make sure they move within the zone when he needs them to, it's wasted movement.
