Shake it off Frankie, a solo shot is not a big deal. Don't get yourself too worked up.

Hunter goes deep again. #@$@! Don't fall apart again, Liriano!

I gotta say, I miss Hunter more than any other ex twin (maybe Garza) from the last few years. The guy knows how to play baseball. We didn't need him though.

And there goes another one! #@$@! What is the deal with the 2nd inning for Liriano?!!

Wow. Smalley just pointed out that we have now gave up 36 home runs. We have hit 14. Just...wow.

Clete Thomas with more at bats...what a roster.

Span caught napping....grrrr!

Piss poor baserunning by Span again. Does he not know how to take a lead or read a pitcher. I saw that coming from 2000 miles away!

05-01-2012, 09:43 PM
And that's why a guy with his speed has a negative baserunning stat...amazing. All these years...

A walk by Liriano, and now an infield hit. Hold on to your hats! Here we go!!

mhanson93
05-01-2012, 09:49 PM
Unbelievable! This CANNOT continue! Twins have got to take Liriano out of the rotation!!!! It sucks even more that there is absolutely zero to replace him with.

They need to replace clete thomas with drew butera.

They need to replace both with a bucket of balls.

I agree with Smalley, Liriano's pitching better tonight. It's not getting us jacks**t but they seem to have him on the right meds.

The worse part is the patience at the plate tonight, making Williams look way too good.

Roy Smalley's optimism about Liriano is crazy. I'm not sure whether to laugh, cry, or throw up.

I don't think his ERA is going down.

Look at this lineup and the starting pitcher and tell me how it could be possible to win this game? Clete Thomas is terrible, Chris Parmelee doesn't belong here, and Danny Valencia is poor. At least Drew Butera is coming to rescue the Twins.

Roy Smalley is a JOKE! Even Dick Bremer and Seth Stohs can't compete with his homerism!

The fact that Gardy continues to play Thomas shows he is asking to be fired! Put him out of his misery now.....

The Angels had scored 9 runs in their 6 games before the last two games....agree with a poster above, this roster is not constructed to win. Bad drafting (by Ryan), bad trades by Smith, and injuries to their only good pitcher and 2nd best hitter....no depth now that they feel the need to carry 13 pitchers and three catchers, no help in the minors. Don't worry, I bet they take that $15MM drop in payroll (in a year where MLB payroll went up on average) next year and buy some players....

twinsnorth49

Still seems like he's getting lit up to me...

Well I wouldn't call 5 hits getting lit up, one was a damn good bunt by a fast runner but they have taken advantage of his mistakes. 3/1 K-BB , 57 pitches, 34 for strikes, he's gotten ahead of a bunch of batters and just got out of a runner on 3rd, no outs situation.

Not as bad as it's been. Just trying to be positive.

twinswon1991

The following players have no business getting regular MLB playing time: Parmelee, Thomas, Carroll, Valencia, Blackburn, Marquis, etc. These guys could be CUT and no other MLB team would give them anything other than the last spot on their 25 man roster IF THAT.

TERRY RYAN, YOU HAVE PUT TOGETHER A GREAT TEAM!!!! Please resign, the game has passed you buy.

Can't wait to see TR draft some soft-tossing strike thrower with the #2 pick that will have a ceiling of 4.5 K/9 and an ERA of 4.50.

Let's all jump on Smalley for questioning the Twins plate discipline.........or is that easy enough for everyone to see?

No probably not as bad..still not good though. It's too easy to get sarcastic/negative with the way he has pitched this year....

Just saw this from Joe Christensen via twitter, about as sardonic as I've seen him: #Twins (https://twitter.com/#!/search/%23Twins) offense flailing away against Jerome Williams in an attempt to take Liriano out of the headlines. #Angels (https://twitter.com/#!/search/%23Angels) lead 4-0 (bot 5th).

Clete Thomas has struck out 12 times in his last 8 at bats.

I dunno. 5.1 IP, 7 hits, 3 BB, 4 ER, leaves the game with a runner on base after 91 pitches. Sounds like he got lit up to me.

Tough to stay positive. I'd already resigned myself to a bad year before the season started, just hoping to recover some ground and that the team would realize they need to rebuild. I was looking forward to watching some players develop and had my fingers crossed for M & M. Carroll's been fun to watch - I was one of the few fans of that move and he's delivered exactly as promised. I like that Ryan grabbed some offensive show to keep butts in seats, but this team's starting pitching is almost indescribably terrible. I didn't expect much from Liriano, but he's a complete joke, and he was the hope of the rotation.

In the words of The Dude, "that's a bummer, man."

I cant really watch the game, just gameday... And does jerome williams have the best sinker in existence or what? It looks like nothing is even making it out of the infield, or in the air for that matter

No, his slider looks very hittable. The problem is that our hitters are not having quality at bats. It feels like they gave up after the first inning.

I swear to god Howie Kendrick has made every out.

Phil Mackey tweeted that his sinker's downward movement this season has been comparable to Carmona and close to Tim Hudson, so whatever he's been doing has made it darn tough to hit.

Jerome Williams does that pitch to contact crap pretty well.

When we hit like this I think to myself, "are we this bad or is the pitcher really this good?" In the final analysis, we make pitchers much better than they are, and too often.

Just a reminder for the hell of it: Jerome Williams was a Twin (briefly) in 2007. He signed and played for Rochester. The powers of being did not think he was good enough. Gotta love the Twins' braintrust

Can't decide if I'm outraged or don't care at this point. I'm authentically mad that I don't care about the Twins (as much.... not not at all) this year. But I'm trying to keep my chips in the pot.

That's a big WHATEVER! You mean just after he developed rotator cuff issues and lit up double A ball with an ERA over 9? He's done nothing since, until last year when he notched a few wins. He pitched a good game tonight, we helped, he wasn't exactly a can't miss prospect back in '07, except on your list I assume. If he played for the Twins now, everyone would be cutting him up about being another Terry Ryan pitch to contact droid.

He wasn't really good enough. He was forced to start 2008 in independant ball. He didn't pitch a major league inning between 2008-2010. He's 30 yrs old. He came into tonight with an ERA over 5 and a WHIP of 1.47.

Just because someone pitches a good game, doesn't make them an all star. Liriano tossed a no hitter.

This had more to do with the Twins lineup than the Angels starter.

Jerome Williams pitched a three-hitter Tuesday in a 4-0 win over the Twins.

Williams faced just 29 batters in his second career shutout and first complete game since July 7, 2003. His previous shutout came June 27, 2003 against the A's.

Lineups:

Span - CF
Casilla -2b
Mauer - dh
Willingham - lf
Valencia - 3b
Doumit - C
Parmelee - 1B
Thomas - RF
Carroll - SS

Let's see, here is the Opening Day lineup, about which some of us were enthused as being above-average:

1. Denard Span, CF
2. Jamey Carroll, SS
3. Joe Mauer, C
4. Justin Morneau, DH
5. Josh Willingham, LF
6. Ryan Doumit, RF
7. Danny Valencia, 3B
8. Chris Parmelee, 1B
9. Alexi Casilla, 2B

What's the difference between these two (forgetting defense)? Morneau out, Clete in. Is that all it takes to become a shutout victim to a very ordinary pitcher? Morneau for MVP, so far!
