The Gib is Up, Kyle Is For Real

There’s no need to remind you of what Kyle Gibson was, we’re all aware. Early on in the 2017 season, the former first round pick looked like a good bet to be non-tendered this past winter; General Manager Thad Levine admitted as much. The turnaround made by the former Missouri Tiger has been noted plenty, but are we really aware of just how drastic it’s been?

BOS 9, MIN 2: There Go Those Shiny Pitching Stats

Entering this game, the Twins hadn’t given up more than six runs all month and the pitching staff had a 3.17 ERA, good for sixth-best in the league. The bullpen had been particularly strong in June, ranking fourth in all of baseball with a 2.60 ERA.

Kyle Gibson did his part, delivering another quality start, but all those pretty numbers listed above look a lot more bloated after the bullpen had a bad day against Boston.

Oh, and all the Eds are broken.

MIN 4, BOS 1: For Grossman and Kepler, The Price Was Right

The Twins have played two of their best games of the season to open this series against the Boston Red Sox. Last night it was the Eduardo Escobar show, tonight the Twins were led by excellent performances by both Max Kepler and from the bullpen. The Twins have clinched the series win and will go for what could be their first sweep of a three or four game series all season Thursday afternoon.

Twins Minor League Report (6/20): Mejia Makes Statement Start

As the short-season minor leagues get going, it’s a lot of fun to highlight a lot of Firsts: First hits, first doubles, first wins, etc. There were a lot of firsts in Elizabethton on Wednesday night. Miguel Sano and Byron Buxton both played in minor league games on Wednesday. Adalberto Mejia is also doing a good job of trying to get his name back on the forefront in the minds of Twins fans and front office personnel.

St. Paul Saints Reach Out to Local Colleges to Bolster Roster

The St. Paul Saints are off to a fast start in the American Association, leading the North Division for most of the season. There have been several players that have made significant contributions to that early season success, but the Saints found themselves short-handed recently thanks, in large part, to that success.

Twins Daily Roundtable: Fixing the Offense

Twins Daily Roundtable is a weekly series. As part of this series, a question will be posed to the site’s writers and they will respond in 200 words or less (Some writers don’t like to stick to this limit). This will give readers an opportunity to see multiple points of view and then add their own point of view in the comments section.

In an off-season where the front office made plenty of moves, Minnesota’s only big offensive addition was Logan Morrison. Last season, the Twins ranked seventh in runs and on-base percentage, ninth in batting average, and sixteenth in home runs. Things haven’t been nearly as good this year as the club has dropped in runs (23rd), home runs (23rd), OBP (20th), and batting average (20th).

Players like Miguel Sano and Byron Buxton haven’t lived up to their high production throughout different parts of the 2017 campaign. Jorge Polanco was supposed to take the next step but his suspension means he has yet to play a game. Other players like Brian Dozier and Joe Mauer have also struggled at times.

This week’s roundtable discussion question is: “Who's the most important player for invigorating the Twins offense?"

MIN 6, BOS 2: Bats Get to Boston Bullpen

Chris Sale was his usual amazing self, but Jose Berrios kept the Twins in the game and Eduardo Escobar worked his Fogo magic once again. This one was scoreless through five, and Boston actually struck first. Things were tied up at 2-2 before the Twins broke out with a four-run bottom of the eighth inning.

Twins Minor League Report (6/19): All-Star Festivities and De La Cruz the Destroyer

It was a busy night in the system on Tuesday, as the short season leagues have kicked off and two affiliate’s leagues played their All-Star games. The Minnesota Twins farm teams went 4-0 on the night, and a little-known player out of the Dominican Republic had an incredible game in the Gulf Coast League.

Royce Lewis: Patellar Tendinopathy

(Twins Daily Note: In a Jeff Johnson story in The Gazette from Cedar Rapids, Royce Lewis noted that he has been diagnosed with Patellar tendinitis and he has been playing with the injury for about a month. He did play in the Midwest League All Star game on Tuesday night, so it is considered a minor injury. Today, Heezy tells us all about patellar tendinitis.)

The Twins community recently received some concerning news about highly-regarded prospect Royce Lewis. Lewis left the Cedar Rapids Kernels Saturday game with what is being reported as ‘patellar tendinitis’, which has been causing him trouble off-and-on for about a month. But what is ‘patellar tendinitis’ exactly? And what might it mean for Royce going forward? Let’s discuss:

Lance Lynn Was Worth The Wait

It has been an eventful last few months for Lance Lynn to say the least. It all started back in November, when he became a free agent for the first time in his career and was given a qualifying offer by the St. Louis Cardinals. At the time it was unanimously considered that Lynn made the correct decision in turning down the offer, but as the strange offseason progressed Lynn kept going unsigned.
