• Twins vs Royals, 07-20-2012, 7:10pm

The Twins handed a late lead to the Orioles and lost yesterday's game, 4-3. That left them with a disappointing 2-5 homestand as they travel to Kansas City to meet the fourth place Royals and play a three game set.

But hey, Nick Blackburn is back in the rotation! After pitching well in a couple of starts in Rochester, the Twins have brought Nick back to Minnesota in hopes that he's be and track and that his sinker is finally, uh, sinking. To counter, the Royals are offering their own struggling right-hander in Luke Hochevar to keep the playing field even.

Now that Blackburn is back, what do you expect from him? Will he continue to get shelled at the Major League level or is there a chance he has figured out his sinker again? Join the Twins Daily discussion below!

Anyone else think now would be an ideal time to sign Blackburn to a new 3 year, 30 million dollar deal?

I didn't think he'd pitch this well. I did think (and say) that I expected 2 to 3 good starts from him before he has problems again. (Not to jinx him).

There just isn't anything predictable about this rotation right now. Of course, one could ask, what rotation? One or 2 cycles through it and then it changes again.

I was thinking maybe we can trade him to someone now.

Ron Coomer just echoed my thought - his pitches are starting to get up in the zone. Let's hope he gets out of the inning and sits back for a deserved rest.

      I would never admit that.

Oh, Willingham - gotta get a glove on that. Can't let it go to the wall.

Hey, if you had told me this afternoon that after seven the game would be tied, and it would be because the offense sucked instead of Blackburn sucking, I wouldn't have believed you. Good night for him - regardless of how this turns out.

I didn't see it. Despite the lack of HR's, Plouffe has been drilling line drives all over the place. I think he is going to be a pretty good hitter. Give him a little time in the league to see pitchers and their stuff and he will only get better. Hitting line drives, to me, is a big separator between average hitters and good hitters. The ability to get solid wood on the ball will create more hits as well as XBH.

Blackburn was impressive tonight, it would go a long ways if we could trust him to be a #5 again onto 2013. That way Ryan can focus on bringing in one less pitcher in during FA and ideally bring in a front line rotation guy or two.

With a post by GCTF, and Dave calling to idealize Blackburn this thread is now complete.

At least we don't have to play that game of "Should we trade him, re-sign him or let him go?" We're stuck with him for next year, for good or for ill. Let's hope for good.

Bruised thumb for Plouffe. Didn't Mauer get sidelined with that for a few games earlier this year?
