    The Twins were hoping to salvage game three of their series in Anaheim against the LA Angels. Instead, the Twins got another poor start and the bats were shut down. In fact, the bats managed to do nothing. Jered Weaver, one of baseball's best starting pitchers, threw a no-hitter against the Twins.

    The Angels won the game 9-0, but Weaver kept Twins fans interested in the game with his efforts. In fact, he kept the national television audience on their toes.

    In the eighth inning, Trevor Plouffe hit a home run ball that landed just foul. In the ninth, Jamey Carroll hit a deep fly ball to left. Denard Span was called out on strikes. Alexi Casilla drove the first pitch he saw from Weaver to deep right field, but Torii Hunter tracked it down, ending Weaver's first career no-hitter.

    It was the tenth no-hitter in Angels history. Nolan Ryan had four of them for the team. Teammate Ervin Santana threw one just last year.

    It was the fifth time that the Twins have been no hit. It was the first time since 1998 when David Wells of the Yankees threw a perfect game against the Pat Meares-led Twins.

    Seeing the Twins bats struggle is frustrating. Being no-hit, coming off of the complete game shutout by Jerome Williams is a lot to take in. Hey, we're all Twins fans, but getting the chance to watch baseball history is pretty cool.

      You know it's bad when the silver lining is seeing history unfold... at the expense of your beloved team. Losing Baker seems to have had a greater impact than just losing his pitching ability every five days. We are a RF, 3B, 2B or SS, DH or 1B, 4 starters, a closer, and at least one bull pen arm away from a playoff team again. That's significant upgrades necessary at 10 positions. Gotta start somewhere.

      When things are going well, you just can't fathom the bottom falling out like this. It is tough to accept and you almost wonder if it is a bad dream.

      Well, to be fair/realistic, very good teams get no-hit too. The Twins getting no-hit just magnifies how bad things are right now.

      I would like to compliment the Twins' offense on this wise allocation of their resources. Why waste any hits on a game in which the pitching gives up 9 runs? Better to save them for Seattle.

      Timid and passive at the plate. What's with these guys, have they completely forgotten why hitting is FUN? Take the "strike zone." Stop calling it that. It's a "hitting zone," and it's a lot bigger than the area Jared Weaver was throwing into.

      Biggest problem with the Twins is pitching, sure. Gotta score ten runs to win half their games. But the second biggest problem with this team is a loser's attitude towards hitting. These guys are stepping up to the plate wondering if they should swing the bat or not. Will it be a strike? Oh no, that one was so close!

      Screw that attitude. Smashing baseballs is fun, and all hitters should practice smashing baseballs in every area of the hitting zone. Some people can expand their hitting zone to above their heads, like Kirby Puckett, or off the bounce, like Yogi Berra.

      My point is, when a pitcher looks at you, he should see a guy that's getting ready to smash anything within reach, not just balls in that little tiny "strike zone." If he wants to throw it a foot outside, fine. In that case you might not swing.

      Now I suppose some of you are thinking, "Boy, that's a sure fire way to look like a fool at the plate."

      More foolish than what we saw tonight?

      Fire Gardenhire and Vavra. Their crappy hitting philosophy has ruined this baseball team. Hire Terry Francona or somebody young and enthusiastic about hitting, like Tom Brunanski.

      By the way, this is not to take credit away from Jared Weaver. He did what he was supposed to do, to a team that has a completely wrong attitude towards hitting. When batters look timid and indecisive, a good pitcher should make them look like fools. Just like Tuesday night, making Twins hitters look foolish was not all that hard. It will happen again and again, until their attitude changes.

      Instead of wondering whether to swing, learn to smash everything within reach. It's a lot more fun.

      Jered almost had a perfecto! What will he do next week against the Twins? Will the Twins come to play? In our house!

      Seth owes Fanatic Jack an apology. Seth ripped Jack for being negative on the Twins chances this offseason. Who looks like the moron now?

      Some Twins fans and bloggers need a dose of reality. The Twins were horrible in 2011, hire a clueless gm, and have the worst minor league system in baseball. It doesnt take a genious to see this is a 100 loss club for years to come.

      The march to 100 continues. How does this record compare to last year? Time for a manager change by the All-Star break. Bring in Terry Francona for manager. Bring in Ned Colletti from the Dodgers for GM. This team needs a heart transplant to continue living.

      The march to 100? That will probably happen by Labor Day. I think the real question at this point is how close they'll come to matching the 2003 Tigers, who went 43-119. At this point, the idea that they could win 37 more games over the next five months seems unrealistic.

      That said, the Twins did go a long time without getting no-hit. I don't know how to research it, but I bet most every other team had been no-hit since the Twins' fell to David Wells in 1998.

      You know...I was going to say something mean to you about this, but I decided not to. What I really want to know is does this make you happy? Are you glad your favorite team is playing bad? Do you like the the fact that your negativity is coming true? I know none of us like whats going on, but I swear you and a few others are having fun out of this.

      Wikipedia has this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...all_no-hitters). If by "most" you mean a simple majority, you are right.

      If I counted correctly, the nine teams not having been no-hit in this period are: Boston, Oakland, Mets, Philadelphia, St Louis, Pittsburgh(!), Cubs(!!), Dodgers, Colorado.

      (This counts the Expos as being the Nationals.)

      The Rays have gotten the treatment 4 times since 1998, and the Padres 3.

      What I am actually curious about, and would take more work than I invested above, is to add up all the win-loss records for teams that go no-hit, splitting their seasons into "before the bad game" and "after the bad game", and see if there is a trend for falling completely apart after such a thing happens, or pulling themselves up and actually doing better than before. I'm hoping it's the latter, and the Twins figure out how to turn this whole thing around.

      My goodness was Weaver filthy last night. I can't even think of another good candidate for best pitching performance I've watched. Liriano's no-no last year wasn't even as good as his later start where he took the perfecto deep into the game...and even that second one wasn't up where Weaver was last night. Everything was right where he wanted it, everything was exceedingly sharp, and he never seemed to get away from his plan. It almost got to be a surprise that they even put a couple of semi-close calls in late in the game.

      I don't know what I said the Twins "chances" were. I've said 77 wins and compete for 3rd place was what I thought was realistic. Don't get me wrong, I'm not thinking that is realistic any more. They were terrible in 2011, no question about that. I think I, and many, thought that if the Twins had Mauer, Morneau and Span back and healthy there would be an improvement. But I think we all acknowledged that there were a lot of question marks in the pitching staff. As long as Scott Baker wasn't hurt, I think we had every right to think he would be back and solid. Once he was hurt and had surgery, obviously that changes. Liriano is such a crap shoot, but based on spring training BB/K rates, there was some reason for optimism.

      Listen, if people somehow think I owe Jack an apology, sure, I'll apologize. I don't know that I ripped him as much as I just can't defend ultra-negativity for a team that someone claims to be a fan of. I would much rather be optimistic in spring training and early in the season that be negative and rude. And if that makes me wrong at the end of the day, so be it.

      Not quite. I watched reruns of Man vs. Food last night instead of the Twins game. It is official. The Twins, especially the pitching, is unwatchable.

      I can't believe they are this bad, with Span, Mauer, Willingham and sort of Morneau.....I thought it would be bad, but this is worse.

      Will anyone score in the MN/SEA series?
